Seymour is a small town located in central Indiana. It is known for its farmers market, the Seymour Municipal Airport, and the Seymour Boys and Girls Club. The community was founded in 1857 by settlers from Pennsylvania. In 1907, Seymour became an incorporated town. The population of Seymour was 5,846 at the 2010 census. The history of Seymour goes back to 1857 when settlers from Pennsylvania arrived in what is now Seymour Township. The township was organized on February 14, 1907 and named after General Isaac Witherspoon “Ikey” Seymour who served as governor of New York during the American Civil War and died at age 91 years old in 1906. The first businesses in town were a grocery store, post office, schoolhouse, doctor’s office and Tilghman Bros., which operated a livery stable until 1911. Seymour, Indiana is a small town located in northeastern Indiana. It was founded on the banks of the White River in 1827 by Isaac Seymour and his brother-in-law Phebe Miller.
