The Seymour Air Force Base, home to the Indiana Air National Guard's 182nd Fighter Wing and Seymour-Johnson AFB, was named in honor of General Curtis E. LeMay, the first commander of United States Strategic Forces Europe. The base began operations at Seymour-Johnson AFB on October 1, 1948 as a satellite airfield of RAF Lakenheath. It was redesignated as Seymour Johnson AFB on December 15, 1957. On September 15, 1959 the Base became an operational command center for USAF Tactical Air Command when it amalgamated with Continental USAAF commands and became Headquarters USAF Atlantic Treaty Organization (CENTCOM). Inactivated on October 1, 1997 when all commands in NATO were folded into United States Central Command. On May 25th, 1984 Operation Desert Storm took place at Seymour Johnson AFB with over 4200 U.S Army paratroopers supported by fighter jets and bombers from many nations including the United Kingdom and France. More than two million gallons of water were used to clean up after the bombing raid which is still considered one of America's great military disasters. The concrete runways that served as launch pads for bombers during World War II have been replaced by grassy areas today where soldiers can now train mission ready combat aircraft like F-16s and F/A-18s

The Seymour Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s when General George S. Patton Jr. came to Seymour and met with the base commander, Colonel John H. Freeman. Freeman offered Patton a job as an air traffic controller on the base, which he accepted. From that point forward, General Patton and Colonel Freeman were very close friends and they would often visit each other at Seymour AFB. In 1945, General Patton was assigned to command United States Forces Europe (USFET) and he took up residence at Seymour AFB. During his time at Seymour AFB, General Patton became very interested in aircraft development and made many donations to the Air Force Academy's graduate program in Aircraft Design & Technology. In 1948, he donated an engine to the school and also gave a donation of $10,000 cash for research into air-to-ground missiles. The following year, he donated another engine to USFET European Command - this time for use in British Aerospace Harrier jet fighter aircraft. The two engines given were known as "Patton II" engines because they were developed jointly by American companies Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce Limited of England under the name Advanced Turbine Engine (ATE). In 1951General Patton donated a total of $25,000 for research into new types of missiles including supersonic jets and ballistic missiles; this donation is considered one of the most important contributions made by him to technology development in warfare today. During his years at Seymour AFB, General Patton also founded several businesses including designs company "Patton Industries", manufacturer of military vehicles such as armored cars and tanks; business services company "Patton Services"; engineering firm "Patton Engineers"; production line company "Patton Production Lines". Additionally, during his time as mayor of Seymour from 1961-1967he established a number of civic programs including free bread distribution points throughout town during Lent; free car wash services for city residents; establishment of playgrounds within town limits; construction of scholarships for local students who demonstrate leadership ability or excellence in academic fields
Seymour, in Dearborn County, Indiana is the largest city in the county and its population was 41,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn (DWAR) metropolitan area. The city is located on a bend in the river St. Joseph and forms a natural border with Dearborn County to the east and west. The first settlement in Seymour was made by French trappers in 1793. A post office called Seymour was established in 1836, and became a town in 1853. The name of Seymour was changed from Seymour to Seymour in 1907 when it became part of Detroit suburbia. The present downtown area was built between 1914 and 1916 after plans were drawn up by General Motors Corporation for an enlargedowntown with more than one million square feet including an arena, department stores, movie theaters, buses, parks and other public facilities. In 2001 American Express started providing corporate services at nearby Comerica Park which had been vacant since 1984 when it merged with Amoco Oil Company's Wayne County subsidiary Mooresville operations center adjacent to Comerica Park into One Ford Place Inc., now Arconic plc., under their new Corporate Services division which completed construction of what is now known as "Arconic Place" on October 1st 2006 replacing demolished old Comerica Park building which served as ArCONIC headquarters until that building burned down on January 15th 2009 during Pistons game againstHeat The current mayor of Seymour is Jeff Driggs who has held office since November 3rd 2017

Seymour was founded in 1834 by Samuel Seymour and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after General George Washington Seymour, who had been a part of the Indiana Expedition against the Shawnees in 1812. In 1865, Seymour was merged into Terre Haute and the population was reported as 10,000. The community experienced growth during World War II with the construction of munitions plants and other businesses. Growth slowed during the mid-20th century as manufacturing left for more developed countries. The town experienced another surge of development in the late 20th century when it became an important center for defense contractor Morton Worldwide. However, this recent growth has largely stalled and today Seymour is a small farming community with a population of about 50 residents.
Seymour, Indiana was organized in 1814. The first settler in the area was John Seymour, who arrived in 1814. The town of Seymour was founded on a small farm that John Seymour bought from the Indian tribe, the Potawatomi. The town was named for General Isaac Seymour, an American general during the war of 1812. In 1827, General William Carrington called a meeting at which he proposed that the towns of Howard and Muncie be merged into Oneida County. This proposal failed to receive approval from the county board. In 1830, General James Kegley moved his family to Seymour and started a grocery store there. The first post office at Seymour was established in 1835. In 1840, Colonel George Moulton moved his family to Seymour and started a flour mill there. By 1850, Seymour had a population of 50 residents and it became an incorporated village in 1865 under the name of Havensville.
