National Guard gifts have been a part of the Schererville community for many years. The National Guard is a group of reserve officers who are called to active duty in times of national emergency. Gifts from private individuals and businesses have been a common feature ofSchererville's gift history, as well. One of the earliest National Guard gifts was a rifle from Captain Samuel Greig of the 2nd Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Captain Greig donated his rifle to Schererville in 1885. In 1919, an American Legion post bought two rifles from Captain John Crain, commanding officer of Company H, 7th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. This donation became known as the "Crain Brothers Rifle Collection." In 1941,Schererville received another donation when Mrs. Eleanor Bogan donated four rifles and fifty rounds of ammunition to the National Guard unit at local high school, now called Schererville High School Oldtimers' Club. In 1948, Schererville received its third National Guard gift when Mrs. Mildred Beeker donated six shotguns to be used by Company I (2nd Regiment) Illinois State Militia Unit at local high school; now known as Beeker High Schools Gun Shop & Range (BHSGR). From 1951 through 1978, Mrs. Nora White donated over sixty radios to the National Guardsmen stationed in and around Schererville- eight each year until her death in 1984; these radios were given names such as "Nora's Radio Network" or "White Radios For The Defense Of Our Nation". The latest addition to our nation's guard gift history is our participation in Operation Jade Helm 15 which took place on September 25-29th 2015 across America's southwest border region including central Texas and south Mexico CityChihuahua state! This unique event saw over 1 million people join together with their personal militias around the country to help secure our borders! A fund has been created to support this unique effort and we look forward to future donations!

The Schererville, Indiana National Guard was organized on December 12th, 1916. The unit was originally called the First Infantry Regiment of the Indiana National Guard. It served in World War I and II. The unit was disbanded on May 1st, 1951.
Schererville is a small city located in north central Indiana. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Vincennes, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Schererville was founded in 1836 by Reuben and Anna Scherer. It became an incorporated town in 1902. The community was named after Reverend George Ransom Scherer, who served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church from 1836 to 1862 and again from 1872 to 1886. The first post office in Schererville opened on November 16, 1836, and remained open until it was discontinued on March 15, 1840. The first store in town was established by Abraham Goudreau on October 17, 1850. A Methodist Episcopal church was built in 1870 and dedicated by Bishop James McNaught of Indianapolis on October 24th; it remains today as the only extant building within the confines of Schererville proper. The population rapidly grew throughout the 19th century due to agricultural production and other industries that developed around it such as lumbering and coalmining. During World War I (1914-18), Schererville played a significant role in supplying munitions for the war effort with its production of aluminum cans for ammunition manufacturing facilities outside of Vincennes. In 1925, when Interstate 85 were extended through much of Indiana during its construction project, parts of what are now eastern suburbs of downtown Butler were annexed into Schererville including what is now known as North Park Center Drive SW . This made possible more dense development along what are now North Park Boulevard NW and Northwest Expressway which runs concurrently through Butler Township between Lake Michigan Avenue SW (now University Parkway) and Illinois Avenue SE (now South Meridian Street). When Interstate 465 bypassed Butler County entirely during its construction project between 1965-68, much older portions of east-central Butler were lost touch with larger metropolitan areas while newer neighborhoods sprung up near I-465/North Park BoulevardNW . Although not contiguous with downtown Butler anymore – Diamonds Jimbo center lies directly southwest across Bridgeport Road from North Park Center Drive NW – this area quickly became known as "The City" or "The New Towns". As more people moved into these new communities away from downtown Butler they began to refer to themselves collectively as "thetowns". Some residents still identify themselves primarily as "scherervillians." This suburban expansion led to increased traffic congestion inside Downtown Butler which has been cited as one reason for decreased business sales over time although other factors may also be responsible such as changing demographics or competition from neighboring cities that have experienced similar growth rates but without same infrastructure issues

Schererville is a small town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–South Bend metropolitan area. The village began as a small community on the banks of the White River in 1871 and developed into a full-fledged town in 1902 when it became an incorporated municipality. The name derives from John Scherer, who purchased land near present-day Schererville for $1,000 in 1853. The first residents of what would become Schererville were Methodist missionaries from Kentucky who arrived in 1851 and founded the first church here. A post office was established here on December 12, 1871, and mail was carried to Schererville from Jennings and other nearby villages until 1909. By then, most of the original settlers had died or moved away as Methodists merged with other denominations. In 1902, however, Schererville regained its status as an independent municipality when it voted to join the larger Terre Haute–South Bend metropolitan area. Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture; although there are some manufacturing operations that include plastics products and tires made inside a factory built in 2007 by Avery Dennison Companies Inc., most businesses operating within Schererville rely heavily on services: tourism contributes about one-third of all local income while education provides almost two-thirds of jobs downtown; health care is also a major source of revenue for many businesses owners; and retail sales accounts for just over half of total economic activity within town limits. One such business owner has been Don Grooms since he opened his Grooms Chevrolet dealership on Main Street in 1984 - more than 25 years later his store continues to be one of the anchor stores for this growing community which has seen dramatic growth both physically (the population increased by 22% between 2000 and 2010) as well as economically (Grooms’ dealership now employs 150 people).
The Schererville, Indiana community was founded by Gideon Scherer in 1825. The town was named after Gideon's father, Jacob Scherer. The first store in the community was built in 1827. In 1870, a post office was established in the town and remained open until 1915. In 1896, the town became a part of the Evansville Township system. In 1925, the township system merged with Vanderburgh County to form Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The village of Schererville disbanded in 1928 and most of its residents moved to nearby Evansville.
