The National Guard in Portage, Indiana has been playing a significant role in society for over two centuries. From its inception, the Guard has played an important role in defense of our country and its citizens. Today, the Guardsmen and women of the Guard play an even more important role as First Responders to natural disasters and other emergencies. The Guardsmen and women of the Guard are members of a community that is always willing to help. One of the first organizations to join the National Guard was Company H #1 of Portage County’s Militia on November 1st, 1812. At that time, it was only made up of men between the ages of eighteen and thirty-six years old who were not farmers or townspeople. Company H #1 was organized as part of a larger effort by Governor James Kapp to increase militia strength within Indiana. Since then, company H #1 has served with distinction in many conflicts including the War Of 1812, Mexican-American War (1846-48), American Civil War (1861-65), World Wars I (1915-1917), World War II (1939-1945), Korean Conflict (1950-53), and Yugoslavian Crisis (1992). Today’s National Guard is made up entirely of Volunteers from across America who are available to serve at any time without pay or duty restrictions. In addition to serving their state governments through exercises such as Reserve Officer Training Corps programs or deployments overseas, Guardsmen also serve tours with units throughout the United States Air Force Reserve or Army National Guard forces when called upon by their respective branches for military service. The Ohio Army NationalGuard unit currently stationed inPortage serves as a model for how all volunteer organizations can be integrated into local government structures while maintaining their independent character; this program is also being studied by other states interested in using NGU troops during homeland security initiatives. The history associated with national guard gifts dates back well before any major events took place within our borders; prior to 1861 there were numerous groups composed exclusively of young men who volunteered their services for no specific cause or purpose beyond simply providing themselves with necessary gear and support during wartime times. One example would be “The Loyal Legionnaires” which was formed on December 15th 1810 by Captain John Smeaton following orders from General Harrison Dearbornbeck while he was stationed at Fort Dearborn outside Indianapolis; these gentlemen pledged allegiance to George Washington after his inauguration day parade on April 14th 1800 under Order No 363 from Brigadier General Joseph Warren commanding all Ulysses S Grant’s army westward across Indiana Territory line into Kentucky Territory where he expected war against France should break out In fact Lieutenant Colonel John Bogan later testified about this group: “At one point we had upwards of sixty volunteers – some three hundred strong – continental Americans all eager for service…we drilled constantly from Sunrise until dark beneath canvas tents set up near Mr Greenwood’s house on State Street near where now stands Union Bank [now Star Market Place]. We frequently raised cannonballs offshoot trees near our encampment which we did variously practice reloading while lying down so that when needed we could get up quick enough without getting fatigued; indeed every man seemed quite anxious about what would happen if war did break out between France and Spain etcetera etcetera but very much relieved when it never did come about etceteraetcetera." All Gifts must now include: Your name (or initial) Date(s) Gift recipient's full name (or initial) Unit/Group Name (e.g., Battalion/Regiment/Squadron etc.) This change comes as a result of complaints from individuals who believe that gifts given to Guardsmen or Women of The National Guard do not meet these requirements. As part of this new policy, anyone who fails to follow these guidelines may face disciplinary action from either Department or Branch commanders.

Portage, Indiana is a small town located in central Indiana. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Posey County and has a population of 2,651 as of 2018. The land that now makes up Portage was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1814, it became part of Lawrence County and in 1837 became part of Posey County. The post office was founded in 1841, and it changed its name to Portage in 1907. The town lies on the Chicago River which flows through it from north to south. The river forms part of the border between Posey and DeKalb counties. Amtrak's route 66 runs through town, providing access to Chicago International Airport for residents and visitors alike. The area that now makes up Portage was first settled by Native Americans during the 17th century. Today, there are several museums located within or near the town limits which reflect its history and culture: one tells the story of Indian Wars fought by both sides; another features Native American artifacts from across America; while still others display items related to farming or local industry (e.g., barns built expressly for hay). The first post office opened in 1841, serving as a transportation hub for easterners travelling along what is now Illinois Route 66 (the old road leading out of Indianapolis). By 1907, when Portage's name changed to honor General James Ketchum, who had led Ulysses S Grant's forces during World War II (and later served as governor-elect), many businesses had already arrived - such as an insurance company (founded1872), a cheese factory (founded 1890), several stores (opened 1865-1892), and two cotton gin factories (opened 1906-1907). During World War II port facilities were used to produce munitions for Allied troops fighting on behalf of Japan; after hostilities ended most production ceased but some remains still exist today at nearby Hardin Arsenal Cluster Munitions Plant No..2 where weapons like tanks and artillery were made over three decades starting 1958 untilIt closed down on October 15th 2014 due to budgetary cuts championed by then US President Barack Obama
The United States national guard has a rich history that goes back to the Revolutionary War. The first national guard units were raised in 1775, and served until 1781. The Guardsmen played an important role in the American Revolution, and many of them fought at Saratoga and Yorktown. After the war, the National Guard was organized into regiments and battalion groups. The Guard was reorganized in 1903 as a corps under the auspices of the Department of War. As World War II approached, the US military began to buildup its national guard force. In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt activated 1 million men in order to serve in Europe during World War II. During this time, national guardsmen performed valuable services such as guarding Strategic Air Command bases and providing support for troops on overseas patrols. AfterWorld War II ended, many members of the National Guard converted to full-time career military service by 1946. Since then, there have been numerous transformations within the Guard force- from unit-based organizations (e.g., brigade) to brigades (e.g., division), through changes in mission (e.g., from militia to reserve). Various new technology initiatives have also been implemented within the Guardsman force over time; these include mobile command posts (MCPs), remote drill units (RDUs), social media platforms for enlisted soldiers (Facebook/Twitter/ YouTube/ Instagram/ Snapchat), voice technology for commanders (Hearing Aids devices), and battlefield virtual reality systems(BVS).

Portage, Indiana is a town in DeKalb County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DeKalb County. The first post office in Portage was established on July 6, 1825. The current post office was established on December 15, 1906. The town was founded by James Mallow and his family who emigrated from England in 1824. In 1830, they built the first log cabin in what is now Portage Township. A sawmill and grist mill were built soon after and the village quickly grew into a busy commercial center with two stores and several homes. By 1836, there were twelve homes and three businesses in the village alone; one grocer, one grocery store and one blacksmith shop. In 1868, John Denton purchased land east of present-day Portage for what would become what is known as Denton Park Shopping Center which served as the nucleus for today's downtown area of Portage. During this time period there were also several churches located near by including First Baptist Church (1868), Methodist Episcopal Church (1870), Presbyterian church (1872) and Jewish synagogue (1876). On January 8th 1870 John Denton donated 269 acres to be divided into lots within what became downtown Portage Village according to an ordinance passed that same year by the township board of directors.. This opened up much potential development for the newly formed township as developers could come forward with plans for hundreds of home/businesses all over downtownPortage Village without having to worry about getting approval from their respective township boards or residents! Downtown Portage rapidly began to grow during this time as people flocked to see all that new architecture being created! Many families also returned to live in Downtown during this time because it offered much more conveniences than their previous options such as rural areas outside of town which often lacked water or sewer facilities! The following year saw another big growth spurt when both streetscape changes were made along Washington Street making it more resemble a city streetcape while still preservationists fought hard against any major changes! This helped drive many people out of downtown over time but eventually led to its demise due to lack of interest from developers despite continued protests! A shopping mall called "Denton Place" opened up north side of Washington Street just south off I-465 in 1984 before slowly dying down until it was ultimately demolished in 2006 due to rising construction costs within city limits!!! Downtown can currently be seen standing vacant once again!!!!
