Plainfield, Indiana is a small town in the state of Indiana. The population was 9,681 at the 2010 census. It is located in Hendricks County. The first settler in Plainfield was Isaac Hickey. He and his family arrived on October 5, 1814, from Hartford, Connecticut. They built a cabin on what is now State Street. In 1824, John Stephenson came to Plainfield and bought land from the Hickey family. He built the first gristmill in Plainfield and started distilling whiskey. The first store opened in 1830 with Wm Sibley as its owner and functioned as a post office until 1838 when it became an hotel. In 1856, Abraham Lincoln was born in nearby Bloomington and grew up hereabouts before moving to Springfield, Illinois when he was elected President of the United States. After leaving office he moved to Plumlee Township where he died on April 14th, 1865 at age 56 years old (he had been living since March 4th). His remains were interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Plainfield until 1886 when they were moved to Mount Pleasant Cemetery because of high demand for space there! The locomotive "Cleveland" that pulled the train from Chicago to Indianapolis derailed near Plainfield on May 25th 1906 killing five people including its engineer George Stephenson; this event is known as "The Train Crash." The site of the derailment still bears evidence of what happened: several hundred yards away from where passengers picnicked after their journey home there are three large chunks of concrete remaining from the derailment which have become known as "The Three C's." From 2008-2011 plainFIELD held an annual summer arts festivalknown as 'Festival Park'. It featured local & touring artists alongside 2 stages/areas each hosting 3 shows nightly over 2 weekends culminating with a mainstage concert headlined by world renowned artist Gov't Mule Saturday night July 27th-Sunday morning Aug 1st

The goal of this process is to ensure that the AFB represents the best interests of its members and their families by awarding authorized gifts to support USAF missions. Awarding an unauthorized gift can result in disciplinary action, including demotion or discharge from service. It is important that all members understand and follow the guidelines set forth in the Air Force Gift History Guidelines when receiving or accepting gifts. Additionally, it is necessary for commanders to be aware of any unusual or unwanted gifts and take appropriate action should they occur. The history of air force gifting began with World War II when General George C Marshall ordered hisAF staff to collect $500,000 worth of army surplus clothing and equipment as a Christmas present for AF soldiers overseas. In 1949, Major General James E Halsey established theAAF Gifting Unit which was responsible for accepting Gifts from all period components of the USAF (Army, Navy, Marines and ICBM). From then on through 1991 GIFT became an integral part of USAF culture as Presents were exchanged between different branches and services at military funerals and other special occasions.

Plainfield is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 7,412 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Plainfield was Nicholas Flournoy, who arrived in 1824. A post office called Plainfield was established in 1835, and remained in operation until 1903. The town was platted on December 12, 1836 by John Davenport and James Todd for Jonathan Sayers and others as part of the Daviess Purchase. On February 3, 1840, it became a town under state charter from Indiana Territory. In 1845 it became known as "Centerville". Plainfield's first schoolhouse has been preserved as a historical landmark since its construction in 1835. When it opened its doors to students for the first time on March 25th of that year, only 6 students were enrolled in what would be to become an iconic building that would remain unchanged for over 100 years; today's school buildings are all that remain of Centerville's original educational infrastructure! From that day forward, Plainfield residents have always enjoyed their access to quality education thanks to Centerville Elementary School! On November 14th 1880 during the American Civil War (the US-Indian Wars), Plainfield residents bravely sided with General Ulysses S Grant against Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee while other towns throughout Hendricks County did not take sides - something which set off a virtual civil war within the community as many people proudly hailed themselves "Uncle Samuel" or " Aunt Sally" when they chose to support one side or another! This event is commonly referred to as "The Battle of PlainFIELD". Despite this valiant effort by our citizens however Union troops emerged victorious and captured much needed supplies for their cause - largely due to help from local farmer Elijah White who had stockpiled goods including rice and flour near his home complex! A variety of businesses sprung up around this time such as Jardine’s Hardware which still stands today located on Main Street just east of State Road 436; Pottersville Market which operated along Commercial Street north of I-465; Cook & Co., photographer Daniel Defoe’s store mentioned herein – now known as Hancock Camera Warehouse; Mr. John Howell’s blacksmith shop complete with forge where coats were made for President Abraham Lincoln – now known simply as “Howell’s Forge” – latterly home to Pohl’s Drug Store before being bought by Gussow Brothers Inc.; Mrsnterprises [sic] Store operated by Mrsnterprises [sic] Company after being built by George Mellingham next door on Washington Avenue west of SR 436 ]; finally Medical Supply store run by Drury Bros., later changed name to Hennig & Hennessey which still stands today across from Wrigley Field south side upon crossing street once occupied by Harry Beckman tire store prior thereto) All these businesses grew out of necessity due to wartime shortages caused both locally and nationally alike but most notably due South Bend munitions manufacturer Holland Armoury having exhausted their stocks at Fort Wayne so local resident Jacob Hennig took matters into his own hands launching what would ultimately become one OF THE LARGEST AND BEST KNOWN GUN SHOPS IN AMERICA!!! Although things calmed down shortly thereafter following Lincoln's election victory over Democratic candidate Winthrop Rockefeller (the man often incorrectly credited with taking away Second Amendment rights from Americans!), hostilities between factions never really stopped although there have been periodic skirmishes here and there throughout history... typical examples include: The 1990 shootout between police officers working undercover Unit 2-6 plain clothes officers employed by District Attorney David Condon during an investigation into organized crime activity emanating from South Bend) or more recently...the 2011 battle between Plainfield firefighters responding to a house fire at 1111 N Sheffield Ave resulting in 3 fatalities
Plainfield was founded in 1795 by Jonathan Dayton and his wife, Mercy. The town was named after theplain where it sat. It became a Village in 1827, and a Town in 1868. Plainfield is located in the Northwest Indiana county seat of LaGrange.
