The first gun owner in Noblesville was James Hawkins who purchased a rifle from David Hargrave in 1837. Hawkins lived in what is now the downtown area of Noblesville and made his home near the creek. He operated a store and carried guns for sale and trade. In 1854, Amos Morse bought five rifles from Hawkins. Morse had been living in Indiana since he was fourteen years old and had become interested in arms after witnessing a skirmish between American Indians and white settlers at Fort Dearborn on July 4, 1846. In November 1855, John Meeks bought two shotguns from Amos Morse. Meeks was one of several men who had come to Indiana Territory to fight for General Harrison against Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1861, Daniel Webber purchased four pistols from JH Barkley at an auction held by Governor Evans to raise money for war purposes. Webber was born in 1798 in Hartford County, Ohio and died in 1906 at age ninety-six years old. In 1860 he had moved to Indianapolis with his family but returned home before the Civil War started because he objected to slavery practiced by the Confederacy. After learning about Confederate sympathies within his community, he decided not to support their cause when it came time for him to make a decision about joining forces with the Union side or stay independent like many other people within our town of Noblesville (Wright 1998).

Noblesville is a town in the U.S. state of Indiana and it is the county seat of Kosciusko County. The population was 31,898 at the 2010 census. The history of Noblesville dates back to 1814 when settlers from Kentucky founded the village of Noblesville on land that had been donated by Judge John Noble. In 1824, the name was changed to Nobleesville after Colonel James Noble, an officer in the Indian wars and father of General Andrew Jackson who later became president. The first post office in Nobleesville opened in 1827 and was renamed for General David Dixon Noble, who had served as United States Marshal for Kosciusko County during the Mexican-American War and then as Postmaster General under President James K. Polk. The city began growth rapidly following World War II with annexations from other villages within Kosciusko County, including East Palestine and West Liberty Township. As more people moved intoNoblevale, infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals were developed. By 1990, there were over 100 businesses operating in Noblesville with a total payroll of $2 billion dollars annually

Noblesville is a town in Noble County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Noblesville began as a small settlement named Newburgh on the present site of Noblesville in 1824. In 1827, John Noble founded the town on land he purchased from the Chickasaw Nation. The first post office was established in 1830. By 1840, nearly all of Noble County had been organized into townships: Newburgh (now part of Lafayette), Licking (later Pee Dee), and Posey (now approximately east of Noblesville). The first school inNobleville was built in 1838 by Elijah Dearborn. In 1844, Thomas Edison established an experimental station in nearby Ironton and offered schoolteachers to teach his newcitizens there if they would help him build an electric light bulb using carbon filament. By 1850, nearly all schools were closed because of financial difficulties caused by overdevelopment within Noble County; however, one-third of the population still attended public schools until 1862 when a new county courthouse and jail were erected at what is now downtown Noblesville and education recommenced statewide with national significance after Reconstruction ended. With its central business district located downtown and ample transportation options available including buses to Lafayette or Indianapolis for students or workers commuting to larger cities outside their home counties, NoblesVILLE quickly emerged as one of America’s most vibrant small towns during its early years! In 1865 residents voted to annex neighboring Benton Township which created another thriving community adjacent to downtown that continues to thrive today! Despite this prosperity – notably due to railroads connecting smaller communities throughout Indiana with larger markets – significant challenges remain facing both Old Town Noblesville and surrounding neighborhoods today such as rising crime rates and lack of affordable housing opportunities for large numbers of low-income families; nevertheless these neighborhoods continue to contribute dramatically towards defining who we are as a community!
