The New Haven Air Force Base (NHAB) is home to the United States Air Force's third largest airlift Wing, with a total of over 350 aircraft. The NHAB has been host to many unique military and civilian gifts from both nations' governments, businesses and individuals throughout its history. From World War II through the Cold War, the NHAB was a major hub for American airforces engaged in conflict all over the world. From bomber training schools to munitions storage facilities, the NHAB was an important contributor to America's global security posture. Today, the NHAB continues its role as a vital base for U.S Military operations across Europe and around the world. The wing offers numerous programs that support USAF missions including Operation Noble Eagle which focuses on activities in Afghanistan; Operation Neptune Spear which supportsreinforcement operations in Iraq; Operation Freedom Thunder which focuses on exercises with coalition partners in Kuwait; and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM which provides humanitarian relief support to disaster areas worldwide. As one of the smallest airlift wings within USAF, NHAB has struggled at times to keep up with other branches of service when it comes to gifting technology and equipment. However, this hasn't stopped members of the wing from taking advantage of technological advancements available today in order to improve their mission capabilities or even perfect existing programs. The wing has developed several innovative gift programs over time that have helped make their presence felt within aviation circles around the globe. Some examples include: In 2013, NHAB accepted an offer from Qatar Airways for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner worth $100 million! In addition to this donation, Qatar Airways also funded a new hangar at NHAB specifically for use by HM-5C/D Chinook Helicopters! Additionally, various Members of Congress visited NASHVILLE during OIF III in orderTo take advantageof LMSCO's MRCJ services! Finally, another significant donation came from Honeywell Technologies Incorporatedwhen they donated 50% off prices on Honeywell HX60Wx2 RadarWarning Radarsystems !This purchase allowed NASHVILLE airport userseasy accessto these systems while providing themwith valuable situational awarenessduringair ShowsandOther Events!. In commemoration of 20 years since Flight 007 spawned one of America’s most famous tourist attractions - The Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum - NASHVILLE hosted an event called “A Tribute To JFK” on October 16th 2019!. The New Haven Air Force Base gift history began on November 3, 1944 when General Dwight D. Eisenhower bestowed the first air force gift to the city of New Haven, Indiana with a $25,000 donation from Admiral Chester Nimitz. The gift was in memory of Colonel John M. Guzik who lost his life in World War II while serving as commander of the 11th Bombardment Wing at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The aircraft hangar and other property were donated by General Eisenhower to the city for use as a public park.
