New Castle is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 16,853 at the 2010 census and was estimated to be 19,815 in 2015. New Castle is one of the older cities in Indiana, first founded in 1784 as a post office called North Bend. It became a town on December 8, 1834 and was named after New Castle County, Delaware. The original site of the current city was part of an area that included present-day Wilmington and Huntington. On July 1, 1800, the United States acquired land east of what is now downtown New Castle from France for $1 million dollars in what is known as the Louisiana Purchase. This acquisition also resulted in the town being renamed Mount Vernon by George Washington because it would house his presidential library after he moved into Mount Vernon plantation near Georgetown while presidency. The city has experienced many economic changes over its history including periods of growth and decline which have been mirrored by its political landscape with three different mayorships and two different congressional districts during its long history: one before it became a municipality (1890–1900), one during Prohibition (1937–1945), and then again from 1997 until 2013 when it regained its charter status from within the Indianapolis metropolitan area through passage of an ordinance nicknamed “No Brainer” by then Mayor Greg Ballard who had unsuccessfully lobbied for it to become an actual city since he first took office as mayoralty candidate in 1989
The National Guard was a military reserve organization in the United States that existed from 1792 until it was disbanded in 1865. The National Guard became an official part of the United States Military on July 26, 1898. The Guardsmen were mobilized for World War I and World War II, but never fought in battle. They were reactivated for the Gulf War in 1990 and are now used as a training force by the Department of Defense. The first national guard units were raised during the French and Indian War (1792-1803). Militia companies were organized throughout America to provide defense against British raids and attacks. Afterward, more state militias joined the army to help with operations such as suppressions of Native American revolts (1775-1800), suppressing insurrections by Loyalists during the Revolutionary War ( 1776-83), peacekeeping duties during Reconstruction (1868-77), and wars against Mexico (1846-48) and Vietnam (1975-1992). In 1802, Congress passed an act authorizing a standing national guard system under which each state would be allotted one regiment thereof “for three years” or until disbanded. On March 14, 1803, President James K. Polk signed into law amendments creating a permanent standing army with 5 regiments per state, including 2 artillery battalions each from New York City and Philadelphia; 1 infantry battalion from West Virginia; 1 cavalry squadron from Missouri; 1 rifle regiment from Kentucky; 1 searchlight battery from Florida; 3 field artillery battalions each from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire; 2 mortar battalions each from North Carolina (the first); 4 Coast Artillery batteries totaling 16 guns each: 6 at Charleston harbor; 4 at Savannah; 2 at Norfolk beachhead #1 #2] No serious testing occurred with these units before their deployment in support of General Winfield Scott's Expedition to Cuba in 1810 which ended without success due to lack of supplies/ provisions/opposition by native forces led by José Antonio Acosta y Montero who had been appointed Director General of Cuban National Guards On October 12th 1861 Samuel Morse sent via Ulysses S Grant A Letter To His Mothers In Which He Wrote "I am about ready for my transfer to Fort Donelson" This event is generally considered as marking the end of Regular Army service within The Union Naval Forces

New Castle, Indiana is a small town located in central Indiana. The population was 5,858 as of the 2010 census. It is the home of Purdue University and the headquarters for several major companies, including Proctor & Gamble and Carrier Inc. The town was founded in 1824 by Sephardic Jews who had fled Spain during the Inquisition. New Castle became an agricultural center after being granted township status in 1851. The first store opened in 1857 and New Castle's first post office was established in 1870. In 1904, the town became a borough and its own police department was established. On December 15, 1907, New Castle became a city under the provisions of an act passed by the Indiana General Assembly to annex adjacent townships. The economic development of New Castle began with the arrival of Proctor & Gamble in 1911 from Cincinnati, Ohio. Proctor & Gamble developed new products such as Tide laundry detergent and Ivory soap; these products helped to create a significant local industry that has continued to be important today. Other major contributors to New Castle's economic growth include Carrier Inc., which operated two large air carriers out of Johnstown until 1994; and PNC Financial Services Corporation (PNC), which acquired First National Bank in 1984 and later merged it into PNC Securities Corporation (PNC). Today, much of what made New castle so special has been lost within minutes' distance of downtown Indianapolis on I-65A: most notably monumental Midtown Plaza shopping mall containing over 100 stores including Sears/Kmart/JCPenney anchors along with Macy's/Hobby Lobby anchors as well as numerous international brands; also close by are three Oriole Park at Camden Yards golf courses totaling 1,200 acres (560 hectares) - one of America's largest open-air sports stadiums...the former stately Waterford County Courthouse now serves as both a library and museum complex housing more than 20 historical artifacts from various periods; Downtown Indy landmarks such as Fountain Square infill developments are only minutes away via side streets or arterial routes such as Thirteenth Street or Pennsylvania Avenue
