Muncie, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Jennings County, Indiana, United States. The population was 20,619 at the 2010 census. The city is named for Muncie, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1851 by parents of pioneer John C. Muncie. The first European to visit what is now Muncie was Captain James Cook on his ill-fated voyage circumnavigating the world in 1770. Cook landed on what is now Indianapolis on July 14th and 15th of that year. His report described "a vast tract of country lying between the lakes Michigan and Erie". On October 9th, 1775 General George Washington appointed Major John Armstrong commander of Fort Dearborn which guarded the Northwest Territory against French incursions during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). In 1851, when it became part of Jennings County, Muncie had a population of 1 settler and 7 animals! In 1860 its population had grown to 12 settlers; it reached 21 residents by 1880; and by 1900 it had increased to 27 residents who were all farmers or sheepmen! By 1910 there were over 100 people living in Muncie! Muncie’s early history can be traced back to 1851 when parents of pioneer John C. Muncie settled hereabouts after leaving Canada for America with their four children – Adaetta (1849-1912), Clara (1852-1928), Everett Leland (1855-1936) and John Curtis Aiken (1858-1920). American Emigrant Aid Society records from November 2nd 1850 list “John C. Muncy’s family” as consisting of: father John C., mother Ann M., two sons Edwin J.(age 10) & Gustavus W.(age 8 years old), one daughter Sarah J.(age 5 years old). All five children were born in Canada but Adaetta was born first so she would technically be an American citizen at age eighteen months old! inland travel became increasingly difficult with few trains running northward until railroads arrived in America during the late 1800s when goods could easily move across state lines bypassing local churches etc.–thus making life easier for pioneers like these! It wasn't until 1861 that a school was built within town limits which served grades K through 12 along with a one room log cabin used as a home base for teacher/students during their weekly training exercises known as " Pioneer Day". Classes began September 3rd 1861 under Mr Prentice & continued every Wednesday evening until 1863 when classes moved out onto newly constructed Main Street where they remain today!! In 1865 class instruction relocated to new buildings erected on Sixth Avenue just east of downtown!!! From this point forward our educational institutions have been located within our Walls community courtesy of Mrs Jane O'Malley who donated land extending east from her home situated at corner 6th Ave & Saginaw St………..All current public schools are dedicated to Mrs Jane OMalley's memory!!!! Finally we may add that Mrs Jane also endowed several scholarships which continue providing excellent education opportunities today!!!!! As you can see from this brief overview our dearmunciens have always cherished education both inside & outside the classroom!!! Today we enjoy an amazing amountof cultural heritage including dozens OF museums each organized into numerous exhibitions annually (& many more being planned!), world class concert venues including prestigious arenas likex Hyatt Regency Coliseum & Lucas Oil Stadium AND innumerable retail stores plus fine restaurants ??? what more could anyone want????

Muncie, Indiana is a small city in theU.S. state of Indiana that is part of the Muncie metropolitan area. The population was 146,823 as of the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Indiana and the 11th-largest city in Kentucky. It is also home to Purdue University, one of America's largest research universities. The first European settler in what is now Muncie was Nicholas Bourke who arrived on July 4, 1787 with his wife and three children from London. Bourke built a log cabin on what is now State Street just east of where US-27 crosses US-28 today. A post office called Bourkeville was established in 1802, and by 1810 had become a town under the name of Muncie. On July 3, 1824, General James Kroll led an American force into what became known as the Battle of Fort Harrison during Indian Wars near modern day Indianapolis (present day Lynx Point). The battle resulted in two dead Americans and five wounded Indians withstood more than 30 minutes of gunfire from Kroll's unit before retreating back to their fortifications acrossriver at Ballston Spa Arsenal. This event helped spur development along present day Lucas Road including downtown Muncie which began growth steady until World War II when much of downtown businesses were destroyed by bombing raids during wartime conflict.. . In 1865, John Coyle settled on land northeast of downtown and began shipping produce from his farmstead to local markets northward through Fort Wayne before finally reaching Muncie for sale or marketation purposes only about 2 1/2 miles south along Main Street between First Avenue and State Street today’s Coyle Drive .. In 1898 Jens Jensen started shipping ice cream out from his business on Park Avenue today’s West Side Road southwest past downtown onto I-465 late last year.. Today there are over 140 businesses located inside or around downtown Muncie limits alone! Bourkeville later became part of Evansville when that city was founded adjacent to Mulvane County in 1867 but continued serving as its county seat until 1920 when Evansville became its own separate county.. When Evansville merged with Vanderburgh County on February 14th 1915 it merged all governmental functions except for education with Vanderburgh County having been formed primarily for this purpose - however muchmunicipal government remains within Vanderburgh County governemnt including police department,,,, Muncie experienced significant growth following World War II thanks to munitions manufacturing plants erected along Lucas Road due to increased demand for military hardware throughout Midwestern United States after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor broadening international warfare beyond America's borders
Muncie, Indiana was founded in 1814 by the French and Indian War veterans James Muncie and his family. The town was named for General Anthony Wayne, who had led the American forces against the French in that war. The village of Muncie grew up around the courthouse on what is now State Street. In 1837, Henry Clay became United States Minister to France and decided to move his residence from London to Paris. He ordered his secretary, John A. Logan, to take possession of a large plot of land near downtown Muncie for use as minister's official residence. When Clay moved into his new home, he sent out a surveyor to plat out a square mile (1 km2) on which would stand services for himself and his household staff. The first block of blocks east of State Street were platted and designated as the "Muncie Commercial District."
