In 1920, Major General George H. Wohlstetter assumed command and led the guard until his death in 1951. After Major General Wohlstetter’s death, Lieutenant Colonel Clyde Crouch took command and led the guard until 1962 when he retired due to age. Lieutenant Colonel Crouch’s successor was Captain Leroy J. Collins who served until 1971 when he resigned due to health concerns. Captain Collins’ replacement was First Sergeant Forrest Koppenberg who served until 1978 when he resigned due to military service in Vietnam. First Sergeant Koppenberg’s replacement was Second Lieutenant Don Folta who served from 1978-1981 when he resigned due to health concerns again However, Second Lieutenant Folta’s successor was Third Sergeant Rick McGowan who served from 1981-1987 when he resigned because of a job change with the Army Reserves After Third Sergeant McGowan left for Army Reserves duty, First Sergeant Ron Larson became acting commanding officer for two months before taking over permanently on October 1, 1987 After First Sergeant Ron Larson left for Army Reserves duty, LtCol (jg) Brent Aiken became acting commanding officer LtCol (jg) Brent Aiken's term expired on January 3rd, 1988 so Col (jg) Rick McGowan took over as Acting Commanding Officer effective January 3rd1988
