It operated under the name "Mooresvile" until November 6, 1850 when it changed its name to "Moorervil". In 1861, construction began on the MOOREVILLE Railroad which would eventually connect Indianapolis with Peoria and other eastern communities. The railroad opened for business on December 1, 1861 and became one of America's leading transportation arteries during the late 19th century. During World War I (1914-18), Moorervil served as an important manufacturing center for munitions production at Lucas Oil Refinery No. 2 along with nearby Hammondsport and Uniontown; these plants produced essential supplies for both war effort and peacetime use alike. After World War II ended hostilities in 1945, much of this production shifted to West Germany where it continued until 1990 when it closed down due to economic reasons. A notableindustrialist associated withMoorervil during this time period was Ewing Gault Halliburton; he founded Halliburton Corporation which later merged into ExxonMobil). Other major businesses located withinMoorervil during this era include White Sulphur Chemical Company (founded by J BWheeler), Blue Cross/Blue Shield Inc., First National Bank (founded by George Crampton), Engelhard Paper Products Co., PPG Industries (owned by Philip Geisel) - all of which continue active today despite having numerous relocated or discontinued facilities throughout their history!
