Mooresville is a small town in Brown County, Indiana, United States. Mooresville was founded in 1830 by John Moores and his wife Jane. The population was 1,064 at the 2000 census. The first post office in Mooresville was established in 1830, and it continued to be held until 1847. The first store in Mooresville was built on Main Street. John and Jane Moores opened the store together. In 1851, they added a two-story addition to the business building which became known as the John Fenton House. A fire destroyed the house in 1903, but it was rebuilt with additions that remain today. From 1921 until its closure in 1984, the store operated as The Village Store. In 1922–23, the Brown County Courthouse was erected on Main Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets; it remained active until 1993 when it was taken down for renovation and replacement with a new courthouse located on Second Street between Third and Fourth Streets. On July 15th, 1984, The Village Store closed its doors forever after more than 50 years of operation servingMooresville residents since those early days of grocery shopping for all things local!
Mooresville was founded by Elijah Moores in 1814. The community was named after Elijah's father, Jeremiah Moores. In 1838, the town passed through a boundary change and became part of Evansville, Indiana.
