The Mooresville National Guard was organized on November 5, 1827, in Mooresville, Indiana. The unit was initially called the “Fourth Regiment of Indiana Volunteers” and served in the Mexican-American War. On December 12, 1847, the regiment was redesignated as the “National Guards of Indiana” and became an all volunteer force. In 1865, the National Guard was disbanded and its members were absorbed into other state militias. However, on November 1st of each year from then until 1971, a nationalGuard Day is celebrated in Mooresville to remember these past soldiers and their service to our country.
