Mishawaka is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Mishawaka is part of the Terre Haute–Kokomo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mishawaka has a history dating back to 1812 when it was called "Mishawa". Mishawaka is located on the banks of the White River and was founded by General David Wilkinson and his army after they defeated an Indian force at what is now known as Battle Creek. The original village consisted of only about 100 people, but it grew rapidly due to its location and access to good farmland. In 1827, President James K. Polk sent General Wilkinson's forces against Native Americans who had taken up residence on the White River near present-day Indianapolis. Although outnumbered 3 to 1, Wilkinson's forces managed to rout the Indians and return home safely with over 200 prisoners including their leader, Tecumseh! This victory helped solidify Wilkinson's reputation as a great military commander and helped boost his popularity among American citizens. In 1829, Mishawaka became one of several settlements inVermillion Township when that township was organized from parts of Greencastle Township and La Grange Township. On July 1, 1836, Mishawaka incorporated as a village under territorial jurisdiction of Terre Haute (now Kokomo). It remained an unincorporated community until December 15th 1935 when it joined the Town of Kokomo through an Act of Congress entitled "An act forbetteringthe Conditionof certain villages within this state". At first there were no buildings or inhabitants other than select few families living in huts made from logs gathered from around town during wintertime; however by 1886 there were two stores/cafeterias/ballroom/and three homes with about 60 residents inside them all year round! By 1920 only six dwellings still remain today inside town limits while most buildings have been replaced or demolished since then; many locals suggest that this decline may be linked directly to technological advances which have made life much easier for those without land or resources - something that didn't exist back then! Today Mishawaka remains primarily a agricultural town with some light manufacturing activity taking place here and there along with some farming operations which account for much of the local food production; however farm incomes are down significantly compared to decades ago because so many residents have left for better opportunities elsewhere in Indiana or outside India altogether! There are also plans underway to redevelop downtown into a more urban-like setting featuring restaurants/bars/stores etc.; however these hopes seem unlikely given how inertia seems almost alwaysto overcome even seemingly impossible odds!!

Perry and arrived in Washington D.C. on July 4th to present America's first gift to the United States government - a letter from Commodore Perry reading "To the Senate and House of Representatives: We have brought over into this country through our ships, twovessels full of presents for your use. I fear that we may not be able to stay long, but if you please let me know what is wanted or desired, I will order them immediately." The USS Constitution was also gifts to both Houses with a plaque reading "Presented by Commodore Matthew C. Perry" on board during its trip across the ocean in 1876. In 1941, Navy deployed gift history again as Admiral Chester Nimitz presented USS Yorktown (CV-5) with a Corvetteload offlags and mementos from his service in World War II including four Victory Medals and an American flag designed by Eero Saarinen. These special moments were captured on video and are now preserved in the Naval History Museum at Richmond, Virginia which is also home to USS Yorktown (CV-5). In 1984, Navy deployed Gift history once more as Rear Admiral John Richardson presented USS Enterprise (CVN 74) with three destroyersloads of flags and memorabilia from his naval career including six gold stars and two battle medals from World War II as well as an American flag designed by Gibbs-Smith & Sons Incorporated It was during this deployment that Rear Admiral Richardson shared his personal story about how he became interested in designing flags for the U.S Navy after retiring from active duty following World War II. His passion for design led him to create one of America's most popular naval vessels - Enterprise - which has continued serving our nation ever since! Mishawaka, Indiana was founded in 1819 by David Mishawaka and his wife Deborah. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the White River. By 1827, Mishawaka had a population of about 100 people. In 1829, Mishawaka became the county seat of Posey County. In 1836, David Mishawaka died and was buried in Mishawaka Township Cemetery. Deborah continued to live in the town until her death in 1886. One of DAVID MISHAWAKA'S sons, John S., later served as mayor of Mishawaka from 1893-1896 and 1899-1900.
Mishawaka is located in the southern section of Indiana, about 20 miles east of the state capital, Indianapolis. The small community was founded in 1836 by Americans who traveled to India to find a new home for their families. Mishawaka's early residents were all farmers and their economy was based on agriculture. By 1860, however, the town had developed into a small town with some businesses and four churches. In 1910, Mishawaka became an incorporated city. In 1924, it joined the United States as a result of the Wilson- Harding Act which granted voting rights to citizens of American cities that had been classified as rural areas.
