Merrillville is a small town in Indiana, located on the banks of the Whitewater River. The community was founded in 1853 by Nicholas Merrill and his family. The first gun show in Merrillville was held in 1886. By 1902, there were twenty-six gun shows held throughout the United States. The Gun Owners of America (GOA) was founded in Merrillville in 1978. In 2003, GOA hosted the Millionaire March to honor members of the American Legislative Exchange Council who had given more than $100,000 to right-wing organizations over the previous year.

Merrillville is a small town in central Indiana. It is the county seat for Franklin County and the only municipality in the town. Merrillville's population was 7,621 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Lafayette, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Merrillville was made on December 12, 1814 by Reverend John Pritchard and his family when they arrived from England on a ship called " filibustered ". The site that became Merrillville was named after General James Merrill who died during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Merrillville began as a farming community with families living on their land and raising livestock. By 1870, there were 1,500 people living in Merrillville. A post office was established at Merrillville in 1872, and it continued serving until 1959. The first school opened in 1865 and enrollment grew to thirty students by 1890. In 1915, Congress passed legislation providing capital money for building a public high school in Central Indiana which would be known as Purdue University Bloomington . The college opened its doors to students on September 16, 1916 under name "Indiana Wesleyan College". On October 3rd of that year, Purdue University changed its name to "Merrillville State Teachers' College" effective November 1st of that year. In World War II, local industries produced munitions plants such as those located around West Lafayette and Dearborn Heights . After the war ended, many these plants closed down or were converted into other businesses such as trucking companies or manufacturing plants

Merrillville, Indiana is a small town located in the state of Indiana. The population was 3,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Merrillville was founded in 1871 byodus Merrill and his wife Anna. The first store in Merrillville opened its doors on Main Street in 1872. In 1976, Merrillville became an incorporated municipality with a population of 5,671. The current Mayor of Merrillville is Jeff Sauer and the City Council has 7 members. Merrillville's history can be traced back to 1871 whenodus Merrill and Anna founded the town on land they had purchased from John Cline. At that time, it was known as "Indianapolis Township." By 1900, Indianapolis Township had grown to encompass 11 blocks square and had a population of 25 people living inside the limits of what would become Merrillville proper. In 1916, after years of debate between residents and officials over whether or not to annex neighboring townships for fear that their combined populations would outstrip those within our own borders (and so prevent any future mergers), voters narrowly approved annexation by passing an initiative calling for a study into this matter which eventually resulted in approval by the Board of Commissioners on December 15, 1916%. On July 1st, 1957, following passage by I-465 through central Indiana (now US-251), Meridian township merged into Evansville proper as one entity with a total population approaching 100 people! This coincided with significant growth for Evanston Township immediately adjacent to us; it’s since exploded past our boundaries count wise!!! The first post office in what now constitutes Merrillville opened on November 12th 1870 after being established by Mr Denton under Act Of Congress Of March 3rd 1865 & closed On October 29th 1870 due To Flooding…….. Property Damage etc….. A new Post Office called “Merrillville” Opened On January 10th 1872 From A Storehouse Which Was Constructed On The Corner Of Main And Elm Streets
