Martinsville is a village in Howard County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Martinsville was founded in 1814 by Captain James Martin and his family. The first post office at Martinsville was established in 1815. The current post office building was constructed in 1903 and dedicated to Capt. James Martin. In 1907, the Village of Martinsville merged with the Township of Arlington to form the present-day Howard County municipality of Arlington Heights. Martin's Crossing on U.S.-27A near town center is an important crossing for motorists heading east or westbound on that highway during both day and night traffic congestion situations due to its relative short distance from I-465/I-65 corridor south exits and north entrances as well as from other nearby villages situated adjacent to either I-465 or I-65 corridors within just a few miles radius thereof during daylight hours only while all other villages are closed completely between midnight and 6 am during weekdays when I-465/I-65 corridors are open primarily for commuter motorists traveling east or westbound; this situation has been corrected since 2007 when Martin's Crossing became an early morning stoplight controlled intersection serving as a central commercial district for all martinsville residents regardless of their destinations on US 27A without any regard to their travel time thereto).
