In 1933, the first commercial large-batch coffee shop was opened in Marion by Josephine Kampen and her husband, Harry Browne. The Kampens operated this business until their death in 1978. From 1932 to 1984, the last known commercial large-batch coffee shop was operated by Roy and Marilyn Heimbacher at 219 E Market Place in Marion. In 1984, they closed the business due to lack of patronage.
