Marion, Indiana is a small town located in the heart of central Indiana. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Marion was founded by pioneers in 1836. The community has been around since then and has seen many changes over the years. The first settlers to Marion were farmers who arrived in 1836. They started out farming land that had been bought from the government by General David Wilkinson. After a few years, they began to build a homes on their new land. In 1840, they voted to become a town and named it after Brigadier General James Hays Marion (1801-1872). The first courthouse was built in 1845 and it served as the county seat for many years. The early residents of Marion were very active in their community. They helped build churches, schools, roads, and other infrastructure projects. They also participated in local politics and helped make sure that their town would remain strong through time. Over time, some of these same people decided to move away from Marion or change their fortunes so that they could start anew somewhere else entirely. However, most of the original settlers still live here today and continue to contribute to the fabric of this small town!

By 1814, the town had come into being and was known as Fort Wayne. In 1831, the United States acquired what is now Indiana from Great Britain. At this time, it became an official U.S. territory and Fort Wayne became its capital. The next year, President James K. Polk named Marion as one of five counties in Indiana Territory and it lasted until 1863 when it was moved to Indianapolis County. Today, there are over 220 businesses located in Marion County and its economy is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing. The county has a number of cultural attractions including the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, which is home to many presidential memorabilia from presidents like JFK and Franklin D Roosevelt; as well as various museums related to agriculture such as the Tillamook Agricultural Experiment Station; and also a zoo that features lions, tigers, elephants and other animals
