The history of firearms in Madison, Indiana can be traced back to 1826. That year, the first gun shop in this city opened its doors. At that time, guns were still being purchased and used for hunting and shooting competitions. The shop was run by George Withers and his wife, Sarah. They sold handguns, shotguns and rifles. In 1892, a gun store called The Rifle Shop was established in the heart of downtown Madison. This store was run by John Hickey and his son-in-law, J.C. Caldwell Sr., who also owned several other businesses in the city at that time. The Hickey Store became one of the most popular gun stores in town because it offered a wide variety of firearms including revolvers, shotguns and pistols. In 1929, a new gun store called The Ammunition Store was opened by Hiram Lodgepole Jr.. This store continued to be operated by Lodgepole until 1978 when it merged with another store named Gunsmiths & Sportsmans which became known as simply Gunsmiths & Sons Incorporated (G&S). In 1979 G&S became the owner of all state-of-the-art ammunition plants located east of Indianapolis IN (now part of Smith & Wesson) making them one of the biggest ammo dealers in America at that time! Gunsmiths & Sons Incorporated became known as simply Gunsmiths & Sons after purchasing an adjacent building on South Market Street from Harry Blackstone’s Company for $1 million in 1982. At that time G&S had over 100 employees including engineers, machinists and personnel responsible for manufacturing all sorts of firearms including revolvers , shotguns and pistols . The company went through many changes during the years but always remained focused on providing quality products at an affordable price to its customers throughout Indiana and Ohio!

Madison is a town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,452 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hancock County. Madison was founded in 1824 by Methodist missionaries working in what is now eastern Hancock County. After traveling through most of central and southern Indiana they arrived at what is now Madison on September 13, 1824. At first it consisted of only a few families who had come to join the missionaries and build churches in this new location. The town grew rapidly with new settlers coming from all over central and southern Indiana to take advantage of the good farmland and easy access to transportation that Madison offered. In 1830, a post office was established in Madison and soon became one of the largest towns in Hancock County with over 100 residents. By 1840, Madison had become an important center for trade and commerce within its own community as well as across central and southern Indiana. In 1860, when Andrew Johnson became president of the United States, he ordered all US counties to be divided into two judicial circuits which would then have their own sheriff commissioners appointed instead of using state officials as sheriffs until such time as Congress could approve changes necessary for federal government operations under the newly created Reconstruction Era (1865-1868). As a result, Jackson Township fell within Hancock County but represented part of Jefferson Township due to population size differences so by 1870 there were only five people living in Jackson Township while eighty-one people lived in Jefferson Township which included Madison proper. In spite of this change in jurisdictional arrangement no services were provided by either township until after815 people lived within Jackson Township when it merged with Superior Township effective January 1st 1892 following an act approved by the Michigan General Assembly on October 15th 1887 combining three smaller townships located east of Superior: Harrison (includes parts beyond modern day Harrisonburg), Lafayette (includes parts beyond modern day Lafayette), Monroe (includes parts beyond modern day Monroe) into one larger township having total populations totaling 1,831 persons including Madison proper The first school building erected in Madison was a log cabin built about 1830 by John Hanks which he used as his farmstead until his death around 1840 In 1847 local landowner James McNaught donated twenty acres northeast of present day Union Station along State Road 3 East to establish what would become downtownMadison This donation allowed for construction beginning November 10th 1850of what would eventually become First Baptist Church – still active today providing worship services throughout the year inside or outside its current facility on Union Station Square
