The United States Air Force and the Logansport Airport have been working together for years, providing support to one another. The airport was originally built in 1941 as a bomber base, and the USAAF helped build the airfield and its infrastructure. In 1963, the airport became an air force station, and then an air force training center. The USAF has used Logansport Airport for many different types of operations, including fighter jets and bombers. Today, the United States Air Force is responsible for both the airport and its surrounding area. The history of airforce gift history in Logansport can be traced back to 1941 when Bomber Command began flying from Logansport Municipal Airport. The base was designed to provide bomber pilots with facilities necessary for their missions. It also served as a training ground for new pilots. By 1962, however, Bomber Command had transitioned to Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft and Station Manager Colonel James Egan decided thatLogansport would become an active USAF facility specific to this type of aircraft operation. Construction on what would become known as "the Big Top" began in early 1963 under direction of Brigadier General James Vaught Jr., Commander Ninth Tactical Wing at RAF Lakenheath in England. This initiative marked a shift away from piston engine powered fighters into jet fighters which were becoming more common during the Vietnam War era. Logansport Municipal Airport remained open until 1984 when it was closed due to budget cuts by then-Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger Sr.. The Logansport Air Force Base Museum is a museum located at Logansport Airport in the city of Logansport, Indiana. The museum is dedicated to the history and preserved artifacts of the United States Air Force. It was founded in 1965 and currently has over 10,000 items on display.
Logansport is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. Logansport is the county seat of Butler County. It is part of the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson metropolitan area. Logansport was founded in 1824 by George Hennepin and named for General James Logan who had fought in the Mexican War and then served as a U.S. Commissioner in Mexico City during the years that followed. The town site was chosen because it lay on high ground near two large rivers which would provide easy access to transportation and other resources needed for growth. In 1869, Logansport became one of seven townships within Butler County when it was created from parts of Randall Township, LaPorte Township, Nobles Township, Purdy Township, Steuben Township and Washington Township. At this time the township contained an total population of 953 people with a land area of . The first settler in Logansport was John Aiken who arrived in 1840 from Boston and built his home on what is now Main Street between Depot Road and Fourth Avenueeast. In 1851 Isaac Dickey bought some land east of Main Street from Aiken for $8 per acre (equivalent to $ ). In 1865 David Jernigan began construction on what is now First Baptist Church (now logansburg church), which opened its doors on December 12th that year. The nearest city at that time was Terre Haute, Illinois; but by 1870 Logansport had become known as "the Hub" due to its role as a center for trade with surrounding townships as well as its location close to major roads linking Indianapolis with Carmel and Anderson counties. By 1880 there were over 50 businesses located in or around Logansport including lumberyards, textile mills, banking institutions and grocery stores - all providing jobs for local residents during important times during the early 20th century! During World War II Logansport played an important role as both a manufacturing center for munitions production and also housing military personnel stationed here until their return home after hostilities ended. Additionally, throughout the war many factories closed their doors due to lack of demand but logging continued unabated thanks to post-war subsidies from President Franklin D Roosevelt! After World War II however overall manufacturing Output declined while logrolling soared! In 1965–1966 there was significant growth taking place within logging companies when logs were again exported offshoot called "loggingtonLINE". This led directly to increased joblessness among US logger's families following mass layoffs across America consequent upon OPEC's oil embargo! Today much like back then LOGANSPORT remains an agricultural town relying heavily on crop production supplemented by livestock farming activities although numerous new businesses have been established since 2000 such as restaurants/cafes/nightlife venues etc.; giving LIFE TO BUSINESSES IN THE COMMUNITY & SUPPORTING STRONG ECONOMIC INDUSTRIES

This trend is evident in Generals Heckscher’s original fund as well as current donation drives organized throughout each unit throughout the year. In addition to providing financial assistance for squadron/aircraft repairs or upgrades, gift Giving has become an important way for individuals within Air Force communities to connect with one another on a personal level as well as show support for our mission at home and abroad.

Logansport is a town located in Logansport County, Indiana. The population was 7,872 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logansport County. The first Europeans to visit this area were French explorers in 1763 and 1764. The area that now includes Logansport was part of the Shawnee Nation until 1803 when it ceded its reservation to the United States. Logansport was founded by John Stephenson in 1814 as a station on the Great Western Railroad. Stephenson's railroad used logs for rails and he named his new town after General James Logan, one of his investors in the project. By 1830, Stephenson had built a courthouse, schoolhouse, and other buildings in what is now downtown Logansport. In 1834, he donated land to build a public square where today's Courthouse Square stands. In 1861, during America's Civil War, Logansport became an important strategic point on both sides of the river because it controlled access to beans grown on nearby farms that supplied Confederate soldiers with food and ammunition. The Union garrisoned here for several months before withdrawing upstream overland after being overwhelmed by rebel forces under General Robert Ewell stores at Monmouth Junction Kentucky . The town didn't regain its importance until after World War II when it became home to many industrialists who established major plants such as Hendricks Manufacturing Company and Phelps Dodge Corporation . After years of decline due to technological advances and competition from larger cities such as Indianapolis , Logansport regained some prominence during the late 1990s when it hosted the annual Brick Festival . In recent years however its economy has slowed significantly due to declines in manufacturing jobs statewide as well as decreased employment opportunities within itself given its proximity to larger cities
