Lebanon, Indiana is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 8,836 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest municipality in the state. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lebanon is home to Purdue University and its satellite campuses in Lafayette andNormal. The first Europeans to visit Lebanon were Frenchmen on their way to India in 1699. The first settlers were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1768 and founded a small town called Voorhees on what is now Lebanon's east side. After warfare with Native Americans led by Pontiac and other leaders of Indian Nations made early settlements unsustainable, Dutch traders developed trade relations with Arab traders from Syria and Iraq before initiating contacts with Lebanese merchants living along the Ohio River Valley. Trade brought new tools, animals, tools and tobacco products back to Europe while providing an opportunity for missionaries to proselytize among Lebanese Christians- primarily Protestant Methodists-who had earlier been resistant to conversion or baptism under European rule. In 1802 a group of men led by Methodist missionary John Beatty traveled through central Illinois looking for land where they could establish missions that could bring Christianity to native nations such as Cherokee Indians near Cincinnati; when they failed to find any suitable sites within three months they started planning their new venture south of Lebanon Creek which would eventually become Indianapolis after private investors purchased land surrounding what is now downtown Beirut from Revolutionary War veteran Christopher Marshall in 1824 for $1 million (the sale did not take place until after America won its independence). In 1827 Presbyterian minister George White organized a religious congregation known as First Baptist Church on what are now Prospect Avenue/Purdue University Campus across from today's Bankers Life Fieldhouse; construction began on what became Lebanon's first church building – an adobe structure measuring 40×60 feet (12×24 m) – in 1830 followed by another church building soon afterwards which served as both school and courthouse before becoming too large for either use; construction continued during American Civil War years when much of Beirut was destroyed by fire caused by Union munitions dropped overground during American airstrikes violating international treaties prohibiting bombardment without prior notification Although Lafayette had long been an important center for farming based economy due largely upon production wells dug into local limestone cliffs there was no major industry until oil discoveries commenced along Interstate 70 just north of town beginning around 1950 resulting numerous jobs throughout region including many still present today including field service work at nearby Anadarko Petroleum Corporation facilities formerly employed workers at Beech Oil Refinery northeast horizon As development progressed businesses relocated closer into town often opening adjoining properties facing I-70 just north then annexing these parcels making annexation process almost seamless form original property line - annexation boundaries remain unchanged today limiting only number total buildings annexed per year

Lebanon, Indiana is a small town in DeKalb County, Indiana. The population was 1,345 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–Superior Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Lebanon were David and Samuel Perkins who arrived in 1837. They founded a farm on what is now Delaware Springs Road. In 1849, the Pernell family settled there and erected a log cabin on what is now Maple Street. It was the first home of Mr. Pernell’s children, four brothers and their mother Mrs. Pernell (Margaret). In 1865, John Witherspoon bought property from the Perkins family and built a house on present-day Lafayette Avenue which he called “The White House” after his daughter Louise married Drury Capps of Lafayette City. The house stood until it was destroyed by fire in 1936 when it was used as an air raid shelter during World War II. In 1873, James Hays moved to Lebanon from Bartholomew Township with his wife Emily and six children including two daughters born while they were living in Indianapolis; Esther (1872-1954) and Naomi (1875-1964). He had been working for Jno Bickett & Co., merchants at 17th & Market Streets when he came to Lebanon to start a new business venture with James Hays & Sons Ltd., later known as Hays Bros.. The company operated several stores throughout central Indiana before moving its headquarters to Terre Haute in 1907 where it remained until 1969 when it closed its doors forever due to economic conditions within the local retail industry post-WWII. A large percentage of Lebanese immigrants who settled here played significant roles in early Lebanese society - some becoming very successful entrepreneurs or politicians while others entered into farming or other agricultural pursuits that would provide them with wealth until their death or retirement years Later generations continue this tradition through families such as Al Hajjai
In the early 1800s, Lebanon, Indiana was part of the Northwest Territory. In 1802, the territory was organized as a county and named for John Lyon, an American Revolutionary War general. The county seat was at Lebanon. The first courthouse in Lebanon was built in 1819. It was replaced in 1853 by a more recent building. The county government changed from a township to a full County in 1865. Lebanon had one school starting in 1818 and increasing to twelve students by 1830. By 1840, there were 19 schools in the community. In 1850, the population of Lebanon had grown to 203 residents; it reached its peak of 424 residents in 1880. However, following Indian Removal and numerous waves of settlement throughout the area during the late 1800s and early 1900s, Lebanese population numbers decreased until they peaked again around 2000-2005 when they increased marginally due to new development and migration from other parts of Indiana
