Lebanon, Indiana is a small town in the Marshall County area of central Indiana. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lebanon was platted in 1839 and named for Lewis and Clark Expedition leader James Wilkinson. The first school in Lebanon was built on the site of what is now the library. In 1868, Lebanon incorporated as a village and passed a referendum to become an independent city. However, due to lack of funding from the city government, Lebanon failed to gain full independence until 1982 when it merged with nearby Evansville. Lebanon is located at (41-10-7). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,746 people residing in Lebanon Township. Of these, 914 (52%) were male and 787 (48%) were female; 2 children lived with their parents who had moved there since kindergarten or grade school began; 5 adults (2%of population) worked in agriculture; 10% self-employed in some form; 11% students supported themselves through paid employment outside services provided by schools or churches; 48% attended public schools while 52% received their education through private institutions such as universities or technical colleges; 3% attend private Koran schools; 8% receive special education services through government programs
