Lafayette is a city in and the county seat of Lafayette County, Indiana, United States. The population was 23,912 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Northwest Indiana after Terre Haute. Founded by French settlers in 1824 as a post office and trading center on the east side of what is now southeastern Lafayette Township, Lafayette grew rapidly due to its location near the eastern border of Indiana and Illinois, as well as its status as an agricultural center. The city's growth continued during the American Civil War because it served both Union and Confederate forces with access to abundant supplies of munitions and food. In 1865, when Union General Ulysses S. The city experienced another boom during the 1990s through outtakes from IndyCar racing which led to new development such as The Grove at Mid-America Center which currently has 1,500 seats for events including concerts and motorsports events; Indianapolis Motor Speedway also hosted its first race there in 1911 before moving to its current location across town. It was also once home to Purdue University (now Purdue University–West Peebles) until it moved to Indianapolis in 1953. The popularity of coffee spread quickly among working people who wanted something hot and filling without having to worry about sugar or additives. By 1915, nearly every major city had at least one café where customers could purchase their morning caffeine fix! throughout World War I, cafeterias played an important role in providing soldiers with food and energy during BattleFields both on land (in cafes) and airfields (through military grants given to cafeterias). After 1919 European Coffee Industry experienced rapid growth due various reasons such as technological advances; however,early 1970s marked whencoffee prices increased rapidly world wide due to embargoed material from countries such as Cuba

Lafayette is a small town in Indiana, located about 25 miles south of Indianapolis. The population was 3,614 at the 2010 census. Lafayette is included in the Lafayette, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city began as a Logansport settlement in 1824 and grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the Marietta-New Orleans Railroad and its access to water resources. In 1830, Lafayette became an incorporated city under the name of Logansport. In 1852, it became one of the original ten cities in Indiana (along with Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Evansville and Kokomo). The men who founded Lafayette were James M. Caldwell and his brother John C. Caldwell; they arrived from Ohio in 1825 seeking land for their farmstead that would include what is now Lafayette Township and parts of Marion County. The brothers patented 275 acres (120 hectares) of land east of present-day downtown Lafayette on which they built a log cabin called "Caldwell's Cabin". On July 8, 1852, the first meeting of the City Council was held at this cabin to adopt ordinances creating new municipalities within Indiana. It was not until 1861 that a proper courthouse was erected in downtown Lafayette by architect Nathaniel Prentice Chasey after plans by Jabez Bowen for such an structure had been abandoned due to financial difficulties caused by America's Civil War efforts Lafayette experienced rapid growth during World War I thanks to its location near combat zones inside Europe In 1919–1920 Lafayettes lost over 200 jobs when Waco Hoosier Paper Company closed down due to prohibition laws then being enforced by state authorities After the war ended there were several attempts by businesses owners looking for new locations within or adjacent to Lafayette limits but all failed because of low housing prices In 1954–1955 local artist Floyd Woodruff exhibited paintings/paintings outdoors on public property between Fourth Street northward and Capitol Avenue eastward while working on his series "Outdoors" displaying works throughout central Indiana During this time period he also created two murals - one depicting industry outside business district along Fourth Street; and another portraying Churchill Downs race track northeast corner Capitol Avenue

In 1814, Lafayette became the capital of Indiana and remained so for almost forty years. The city experienced significant growth during the American Civil War (1861-1865) with an estimated population of up to 10,000 residents. However, due to its small size and lack of defensive infrastructure, Lafayette was quickly overwhelmed by Confederate forces in 1865. Today, Lafayette is a bedroom community located within Indianapolis metropolitan area.
