Brazil is home to one of the most famous artisanal roasts around, which offers a rich flavor profile with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The Ethiopian Highlands are another significant source of high-quality beanage and produce some of the most balanced and complex coffees around. And while Latin America has been relatively untouched by Coffee Culture (to say nothing of African-American cafes), there are occasional exceptions that illustrate how quickly things can change when people start taking notice of what they’re drinking (e.g., Bodega Coffee Roasters’ collaboration with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez). It wasn’t until World War II that we really got our hands on real espresso machines—the first ones were made by Italian engineers working on military contracts during WWII! As coffee became increasingly popular as an afternoon pick-me-up cmd item for soldiers stationed all over Europe—and as civilians took up a love for java as well—artisanal roasts took off all over again. It was during this time that many iconic European brands like Peet's started making truly international flavors available at home as well (think: Kenyan Blue). And while these delicious experiences haven't exactly disappeared completely since then, they've definitely become harder to come by due to global demand for high-quality beans!
