Kokomo's history of coffee begins with the early Dutch settlers in the area in the 17th century. The first Kokomo Coffee houses were located on Main and State Streets. In 1871, J.C. & Sons opened their first store at 624 South State Street. In 1916, Mr. & Mrs. Denton founded Kokomo Coffee Company and began to sell coffee direct from their farmstead in rural Kokomo County. In 1954, Mr. & Mrs. Prentice opened the first drive-through Starbucks branch in Kokomo and quickly became known for their excellent customer service as well as their delicious coffee beans! In 1984, they sold their business to The Starbucks Corporation and continue to serve delicious coffee until this day!

In fact, one study found that café drinkers were more likely than non-café drinkers to report lower levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline while studying test questions at study sessions

Kokomo is a small town in Kokomo County, Indiana, United States. The population was 7,818 at the 2010 census. Kokomo is the hometown of former Indianapolis Colts player and current television commentator Peyton Manning. Kokomo has also been home to numerous professional wrestlers, including Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan. The first European settlers in what is now Kokomo County were French colonists who arrived in 1795. In 1814, the area became part of Monroe Township. The first post office in Kokomo was established in 1821, and the town was named after John Coker, a settler from England who had come to America that year. The first store opened in 1827 and the first physician was Dr. Isaac McCoy in 1830. In 1851, President James Komer appointed David Aiken as Mayor of Kokomo with power to hire or fire village trustees and overseers; this function subsequently passed into municipal hands under Indian law until it reverted back to township control when Komer left office in 1865. Komer's successor as Mayor, Milt Davenporty (1866-68), increased patronage for village officials by appointing them relatives of his friends or those he felt could best serve their constituencies without political influence being exerted against them by other officials within township government . During Davenporty's term (1911-13), a new brick courthouse/ jail was built on Main Street east of town - one of only two such structures remaining standing statewide from that date (the other being Mount Vernon State Hospital). From 1916 until its closure during World War II due to wartime regulations governing public buildings then prevailing throughout much of America, the old courthouse served as an Air Force Brigadier General's quarters before finally hosting a local branch library beginning operations on November 1st 1948; prior to its conversion into an annex leading up to present day Main Library building on First Avenue southeast of town) there existed but one single 19th century building still extant within downtown limits having housed various agricultural plantations operated by Dutch families long preceding white settlement: "The Old Dutch House" which still stands today along Third Street northeast corner thereof having actually been "leased" by early white occupants while vacant since 1796 although not yet occupied when white newcomers moved into what would become Kokomi Village circa 1800; thus becoming one significant historic landmark immediately adjacent thereto across Third Street from present day public library facility itself despite initial claims made by some developers subsequent thereto notwithstanding regarding purported designation thereby erroneously rendering "Old Dutch House" property tax exempt thereby precluding any bona fide restoration/ Renovation project whatsoever notwithstanding!
