Some of the earliest coffee beans were grown in Kokomo, Indiana. The area was first settled by Dutch missionaries in the early 1700s and they grew Coffee Trees to export to Holland. After their departure, the beans were propagated by local farmers before being brought over to Kokomo and other parts of Indiana. In 1853, a Mr. Wacker bought a large piece of land near Kokomo and began growing Coffee Beans for sale in his store. The first kokomo coffee shop opened in 1857 on Main Street. It was operated by John Iversen who started it as an extension of his grocery business. In 1865, Jens Olsen opened the first commercial roasting house in Kokomo when he purchased a two-story building at 5th and State Streets from Jens Findahlsen. The Olsen House continued to be operational until it was destroyed by fire in 1922. The next significant event happened when George Bemis founded the First National Roastery at 9th and State Streets with assistance from Averill Harriman during World War II. Kokomo is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 9,834 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kosciusko County. Kokomo was founded by English settlers in 1836 and named after General James Wilkinson's plantation in Georgia. The first white settler in Kokomo was John Goodloe who arrived on May 15, 1836. He built a log cabin on what is now State Road 6. The settlement grew slowly until 1840 when William Haines moved to the area and opened a store called the "Haines Store." In 1844, Daniel Jorgensen established a post office near the present day intersection of Main Street and State Road 6. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Kokomo served as an important military base for Union forces under General George Armstrong Custer as they sought to capturenotes from Indian tribes opposing US forces. After Confederate general Robert Epson surrendered at Fort Donelson on April 12, 1865, most of Kokomo turned over to Union control within two weeks. A small contingent of Confederates fought until they were captured or killed; these men are often commemorated through local tourist attractions such as the Confederate Cemetery located just east of town off West Main Street. Some residents of Kokomo began to move away during this time period because of economic reasons such as high taxes or changes in government policy that favored nearby Evansville while leaving Kokomo largely untouched. However, many more stayed behind because they could not find other homes or jobs elsewhere within Kosciusko County during this difficult time period for Americans following Reconstruction which ended with slavery being abolished across America in 1865-1877 inclusive of all former Confederate states except South Carolina and Texas which had seceded from America four years earlier). In 1878–79, community leaders convened an election to select a new Board of Trustees for school operations after the board's previous members resigned due to differences with Superintendent George Prentice about curriculum selection and financial management practices at schools operated by Kossuth Township Schools District No 4 (later renamed Butler Community Schools District No 3) south of town limits). Twelve men were nominated by citizens and three were elected without ballots; one man received no votes because he had already left town prior to election day but his name appears on nomination cards distributed throughout the community as part of democratic process under Article XVIIIth Section 2(a) Constitution Of Indiana Additional Amendment ratified February 5th 1889 (Penny For Our Time)). After careful review by trustees appointed pursuant thereto following recommendation from City Marshal Leland Hardin auditing district superintendency accounts monthly since November 1st 1887 [see Appendix III], it was determined that there simply did not exist any need for another educational institution within our Town Limits so late into this Century alas! On January 1st 1890 education became available through Mrs Alice McCoy’s Schoolhouse located on Third Street opposite Depot Station having been funded by Mr Wm Haines with $600 towards establishment thereof” – “Kokomoskee High School Today: History & Heritage” pg 25-26 Today's school system provides instruction through five elementary schools - Kokomoskee Elementary School (grades K-4), Central Park Elementary School (5-8), South Park Elementary School (9-12), East Side Middle School (13-16) AND North Side Middle/High School (17+) along with twosecondary schools - Clinton Technical HighSchool And Johnson Tech HS both located nearby Clinton Township

One of the earliest attempts at creating quality coffee was made in 1792 by Giovanni Antonio Volpi. Volpi's coffee beans were used in a small amount in an Italian-American black tea blend called The Three Towns Tea (now owned by Starbucks). In 1824, an American named George Peabody began production of his own beans and soon became known for his high-quality coffee. Peabody's beans were sold through shipyards around the world. In 1865, Dutchman Hendrik Cornelisz van der Velde started producing coffee in partnership with British businessman Benjamin Barrett. The two men bought a small plantation near Juta in East Java, Indonesia and began growing exquisite bean varieties specifically for their new company. After years of hard work and dedication, they eventually produced some of the most famous Indonesian coffees - such as PT Bintang Jaya which is now popular throughout Southeast Asia. In 1896, Dutchman Gerardus Johannes Jacobs established Koffiehuizen (today part of Starbucks) as a retail store selling single origin roasts from Van der Velde and Jacobs' farms. In 1912, Rhodesian army officers stationed in Nairobi discovered fresh coffee trees near Nairobi Airport hidden amongOverride Street market stalls during their lunch break; these beans would later become known as Kenya Coffee! Around this time also came about Robusta Coffee - first developed for Turkish soldiers stationed in Syria during World War I who found themselves unable to purchase European roasted beans due to shortages at home (Robusta Beans can be found today canned across Europe). In 1936 Wolfgang Puck opened Strand Cafe on New York's Upper West Side with his first espresso machine; this led to him developing Roastmasters which became one of the world's most popular drip coffeemakers throughout the 1970s thanks to its unique design featuring multiple drums per filter basket!. By 1971 all nine cafes had closed down due to financial difficulties but Puck reopened them under new ownership within months - resulting in Strand becoming one of New York City’s most iconic restaurants ever!
