In 1919, the First Infantry Regiment of the United States Military Academy at West Point was formed in Kokomo and assigned to serve in Indiana’s 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team IV (1-IV). This brigade helped lead America into World War II as part of Eisenhower’s Crusade in Europe. In 1947, 1-IV became 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (2-IB), which remained stationed in Indiana untilactivated in 1984. In 1984, 2-IB were reactivated as 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (3-IB) and later 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (4-IB) before being disbanded again in 2002 as 5th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (5-IB). On October 24th, 2006, 5- IB were reactivated with Headquarters & Headquarters Troop “HHCTC” located at Fort Wayne Arsenal under command of Major General Rick Naylor Jr., Commander Military District Central 8th Air Force headquartered at Indianapolis International Airport. As per mobilization order #2193 dated November 17th 1944 “the unit will be organized into a provisional regiment consisting of three battalions each commanded by a lieutenant colonel or captain with assistant adjutant general or first sergeant also serving as company commanders; these provisional battalion commanders will prepare themselves for their troop assignments while attending maneuvers at Ft Wayne Arsenal under overall command of an infantry brigade commander responsible for all operational field activities within their area including artillery fire support mission planning/control/coordination during maneuvers scheduled for that particular week only; furthermore they will maintain contact with headquarters during rotations throughout

Kokomo is located on the southern edge of Evansville, and it is one of four towns in Vanderburgh County. Kokomo was founded by Isaac Kokorin in 1829. The first post office was established in 1830, and the first store opened in 1831. The town grew quickly due to its location and its manufactures: whiskey, boots, saddles, wagon wheels and other items were produced here. In 1846, a railroad station was built here and soon the town became an important transportation hub for the area. The population declined during World War II because of the war effort; however, it has since rebound thanks to new businesses opening up in the area since then. The community has experienced many changes over the years; some of which are as follows: - In 1956, when Kokomo School District merged with Vanderburgh County Schools to form one large school system (Vanderburgh Central), Kokomo became one of its early campuses - In 1984, when Kokomo annexed part of neighboring unincorporated territory to form a park named after John Fetterman (the first mayor of Vanderburgh County), Kokomo became one of only two towns within that park - In 2004, when VanderburghCounty voted not to annex any more land into the district from other municipalities (following a referendum campaign led by Mayor Dave Kapp), this set off again another referendum campaign about annexing land into the system from other municipalities - this time successfully annexing land from neighboring unincorporated territory to create a larger Park named after John Fetterman - Finally - most recently - in 2009 following annexation requests by several villages within thatlarger Parknamed after John Fetterman (including Stratton Village and New Harmony Village), Kokomo became one of three communities within thatlarger Park
On November 3, 1847, the first train arrived in Kokomo, Indiana. The railroad was built to bring goods and passengers to the growing city. Kokomo became a major center for trade and commerce during the 1800s.
