The history of the company goes back to when it was simply called “Burden’s Coffee Shop”. Today, the shop has been open for over 120 years and continues to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The store has a wide variety of roasts available as well as different packaging options including reusable cups and travel mugs made out of recycled materials. Kendallville is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. Kendallville is home to the Kendallville Museum and Research Library. The city of Parkersburg also lies within its boundaries. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Kendallville were the Pottawatomies, who lived there for several hundred years. In 1814, the land that includes present-day Kendallville and parts of Parkersburg was acquired by John Pemberton from the Potawatomi Nation. He renamed it "Pemberton Township", after himself. A post office was established in 1821, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settler in what is now Kendallville was David Patterson, who arrived there about 1800. By 1830, almost all of Kosciusko County had been claimed by European settlers; only a area around present-day Parkersburg remained undeveloped and uninhabited. When Andrew Jackson became president in 1828, he issued an executive order calling for all Indian nations to be removed from their lands west of the Mississippi River as part of his efforts to open up new territory to white settlers. The first post office was established in Kendallville in 1833. In 1835, the town was incorporated and located on the west side of the river near present-day Uniontown. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location as a transportation hub on the rapids of the White River and its access to timber and other resources. The growth of Kendallville led to an increase in population density which contributed to problems such as traffic congestion and pollution. By 2000, Kendallville's population had declined below its peak of 1,500 people. However, it retains a strong community spirit with active businesses and organizations that support local agriculture, cultural events, education opportunities for children and seniors, as well as annual community festivals.
