Coffee has been a part of the American culture for over 50 years and Jeffersonville, Indiana is home to one of the largest coffee roasters in the United States. The first coffee shop in Jeffersonville was opened in 1951 by Mr. and Mrs. John Hafer, who were entrepreneurs with a vision to bring together people from all walks of life to enjoy a cup of good old-fashioned caffeine. In 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Koehler joined the family business and continue to serve up delicious java until now. They are also major donors to many local charities, some of which have received lifesaving donations thanks to their support. Today, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf continues on its tradition as a regional leader in coffee service with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship that goes above and beyond what you would find at most convenience stores or grocery stores. The history of coffee in Jeffersonville, Indiana goes back to 1851. A Dutchman named Hendrik Janse van Rensselaer brought coffee beans from Holland to the area around present-day Indianapolis. He and his wife, Margrietje de Witt, started a small shop called The Dutchman’s Coffee House on Main Street in Jeffersonville. In 1854, they opened an additional store on State Road 3 near where I-465 now intersects the town square. In 1865, The Dutchman’s Coffee House was replaced by the first Starbucks store in America. Today, Starbucks is one of the most recognizable brands in the United States and its stores are located throughout Indiana and Michigan.
Jeffersonville, Indiana is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,629 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Jeffersonville was Isaac H. Downing in 1827. In 1838, David Wackenhut immigrated to Jeffersonville and founded the first post office there. He Named it Pee Dee after his father’s birthplace in Rhode Island. In 1863, John Sibley settled in Jeffersonville with his family and opened the first grocery store in Kosciusko County. He donated land to build a school which became the current high school building on Main Street. The town was named for James Ketchum Polk (1812-1868), who served as Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President from 1868-1872 and had been elected by Popular Vote as Mayor of Chicago before he came to Kosciusko County to run for office In 1924, Clements Mclntyre built a sawmill on White River south of town and started producing lumber which has kept the mill running ever since. Today's mill also produces mostly agricultural products such as hay and vegetables

The earliest references to coffee can be found in ancient Greece and Rome. In these texts, coffee was mentioned as a drink that could be brewed with water or milk. It was also mentioned as a drink that could be enjoyed cold or hot. The first Europeans to experience real-world coffee were Italian sailors who discovered Java in 1521. They brought back plants and seeds from this location and began planting them in their ships’ hulls, which led to the first successful commercial production of coffee on land in Europe. Coffee became popularized in England during the 16th century because of its soothing properties and its ability to ease pain from various diseases. During the 18th century, coffee started becoming associated with luxury goods such as fine wines and jewelry. This trend continued into the 19th century, when people began using coffee as a status symbol. This popularity led to increased demand for beans, which caused prices to skyrocket. The result was an intense competition among farmers for control of the market for bean resources. As a result, yields decreased and Coffees disappeared from most markets by 1920 though they continue to be produced commercially today

The name Jeffersonville is derived from James K. Polk, who was the 26th president of the United States and also served as a U.S. Congressman from Illinois and as secretary of state under Franklin D. Roosevelt. The town was founded in 1814 by Colen Campbell, an army captain and surveyor who had come toIndiana to purchase land for his family's cotton plantation near Vincennes Lake on the west side of what is now Evansville. In 1824, Jeffersonville became one of six vilages within the newly created Evansville Township., which later became part of Clinton Township in 1834." Jeffersonvillette has a rich history that can be traced back to its earliest days when it was known as "Campbell's Valley". James K Polk, then 26th president of America and also serving as U.S Congressman from Illinois and Secretary of State under Franklin D. Roosevelt named it after himself in 1938 while he was living in Galesburg, Illinois (then part of Quincy County). Today only a few hundred elderly residents remain scattered throughout much rural portion of town currently accessible only viatrail ride or busride out west where access has been blocked due to engineering works
Jeffersonville was founded by Simon De Witt in 1786. It became a town in 1827 and was named for George Washington Jefferson, the first U.S. President. The population of Jeffersonville grew to over 10,000 by 1870. In 1892, the Indiana State Legislature passed a bill that changed the name of the town to Indianola after one of its founders, General John Custer.
