The Coast Guard in Jeffersonville, Indiana has been providing service to the community for over 120 years. The Coast Guard was founded on April 15, 1915 by the United States Congress as a part of the War Department. The Coast Guard is responsible for maintaining and protecting America's coastal communities and waters. In 1925, the Coast Guard moved office from New York City to Jeffersonville. Jeffersonville is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, and the county seat of Putnam County. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The history of Jeffersonville goes back to 1815 when it as a small village northeast of present-day Indianapolis on what is now known as eastbound I-465. In 1825, Josephine (Fanny) White built a log cabin on what is now north side of Main Street and served as the first post office in town. In 1828, John Wesley Powell discovered Tellico Reservoir while exploring Indian Country near modern day Lafayette, Indiana. This discovery led to development around Tellico Creek in downtown Jeffersonville which began with building businesses along the creek for shipping goods from eastern Indiana to local markets in central and westernIndiana during the 19th century. One such business was White's grocery store which opened in 1830 on what is now east side of Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets. In 1850, Drury House Tavern was built across from White's grocery store by Ebenezer Chilton who became an early real estate developer and owner of several properties including Jeffersonville Landing where he developed a small canal system that connected his properties with one anotherand later with nearby Butler Lake for water supply purposes only; this property remains extant today as chilton Landing State Park located just south of downtown Jeffersonville on Nippert Road across from Butler University Campus). In 1860, white farmer Jno Henson donated land adjacent to present day First Baptist Church southeast corner Fourth Street and Main Street to build a new courthouse which would serve as court house until finally moved into its current space atop Courthouse Square in 1865 due to lack of space at old courthouse location & cellars were used for storage by residents until 1893 when they were razed to build new First Baptist Church on site; this property remains extant today adjacent Courthouse Square next door to First United Methodist Church also located within walking distance from both churches.) The first Coast Guard station was established in New York City, and the service grew to its current size of over 12,000 men and women. Today, the Coast Guard provides support to more than 70 countries around the world, with a primary mission of maritime safety. One of the most important aspects of the Coast Guard's role is its responsibility for preventing coastal piracy. In 1855, Congress passed an act creating the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) as part of a response toPiracy on America's coasts. NCIS was charged with investigating crimes committed by pirates and their sympathizers ashore. This began a long tradition of cooperation between NCIS and Coast Guard officers from both agencies. In addition to its responsibilities related to piracy, the Coast Guard also plays a vital role in law enforcement on America's shores. In 1986, Congress created the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NOLF) in honor of those who have died in law enforcement activities during peacetime or wartime since September 11th, 2001. The purpose of NOLF is to provide financial support for memorials that commemorate individuals who have lost their lives while performing their sworn duties as police officers or firefighters. Today, there are over 5500 members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary working across America's ports and harbors providing essential services such as search and rescue operations when needed; pollution control; hazardous materials management; marine traffic control; public safety training;and many more!

Jeffersonville is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana that was named for George Washington Jefferson, who was the first president of the United States. The original site of Jeffersonville was on the present-day campus of Purdue University. The town was established in 1824 and grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location at the junction of two railroads and its close proximity to both Indianapolis and Chicago. In 1892, Jeffersonville became an incorporated city and has since grown into one of the most populous towns in central Indiana. Jeffersonville's history began with early settlers, including several families from England who arrived in 1786 along what is now State Road 9 north of today's downtown. By 1800, there were about 100 people living in Jeffersonville. By 1824, when it began to attract settlers from various parts of India, China, and other countries as part of a land rush, population had reached 300 people. This growth continued through much of the 19th century as new railroad lines were built westward across central Indiana; by 1850 all but six villages in central Indiana (including Jeffsvillet) had been founded by immigrants who came toIndiana primarily to work on those railways or start their own businesses. In 1892, when Jeffersonville became an incorporated city under law passed by Congress following passage of legislation providing for incorporationof cities in Central Indiana; it added 1,000 residents over a period totaling only 10 years to what had been a single village numbering around 200 inhabitants before that time. Jeffersonville was founded in 1827 by a group of men who had come to Indiana from Kentucky. The town grew rapidly, and by 1830 it had a population of over 500 people. In 1836, the town was renamed Jeffersonville after James K. Polk, then the United States President.
