The navy has a long and proud history in Huntington, Indiana. The shipbuilding industry in the city began in 1848 and the navy was founded in 1861. The city's main Naval Base is located here and it has been home to the USS Constitution (1797) and USS Constitution-class frigates (1812-1845) since World War II. Huntington, Indiana is located in the state of Indiana and is part of the city of Huntington. The population was 14,851 at the 2010 census. It is a town with a rich history that dates back to 1811 when it was founded by General George Rogers Clark. The area now known as Huntington was first settled by Native Americans in this area. In 1818, General Anthony Wayne attacked the village of Shawnee on the east side of Lake Mononoke and burned down their homes and some other buildings before retreating. This event is also considered to be the beginning of Huntington’s relationship with the United States. After American victory over British forces at Fallen Timbers in 1812, General Wayne ordered his men to burn down all Indian villages they found in central Indiana if they had any weapons or ammunition. In 1821, Stephenson purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) around what are now Huntington Beach Boulevard and I-465 from Nicholas Hanna for $10 per acre (4,600 hectoliters). This land became known as Stephenson’s Grant because it lay within present day Huntington Beach and across from what would become Manchester Township. As Stephenson developed his new community he named it after James Krieger who had been killed during an expedition against French Canada in 1759 near modern day Ottawa County. However, due to legal challenges brought about by Daniel Boone – who claimed title to much of central Indiana – Krieger’s name did not come into use until later when someone reminded him about it during a visit to town. Thereafter,Krieger’s Creek became known as “Huntington run” which still refers to that portion of town today although most people living there call themselves “Huntingtons” regardless of where they came from originally! The first post office opened in 1827; however no one lived in or around Huntington until after 1840 when John Hulbert moved there from Stroudsburg with his family (the last white person living in Indianapolis). By then narrow gauge railroad lines were being built through this area so transportation was important for early settlers including Hulbert who started a blacksmith shop next door to his house starting in 1840! The first school was established on account of many residents being unable or unwilling to go further than Petersburg Junction where they could ride horseback up Mount Lebanon Road for instruction! In 1863 local farmers formed a Tradesmen's Union which later merged with another organization called The National Agricultural Society which began buying land around here for farming purposes back then! During World War II more than 3 million Americans were deployed within artillery units stationed throughout Europe including 4200 soldiers from Huntington who served consecutively between 1941-1945 outfitted with everything from tanks and aircraft carriers all the way down to gas masks! A large number also worked at Denny Motors plant manufacturing gasoline engines used within military vehicles such as Jeeps, SUVs etc.; however production stopped abruptly once war ended because demand decreased following atomic bombing raids on Hiroshima and Nagasaki!!! After V-E Day 1945 many veterans returned home but many others decided not to return since their jobs had long disappeared elsewhere due largely theretofore unknown changes taking place during wartime!! Many families continued residing herealbeit minus some rural farmland while others left altogether!!!! With so much going on both inside and outside downtown you can understand why so few people live here anymore officially even though most everyone remembers their childhood home intimately!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) has published a series of articles on navy gift history. This is an excerpt from the third article in the series: Navy gifts have been a part of naval warfare since at least the 1500s. The United States Navy commenced gifting Ships in 1853, with Captain James Cook receiving one as a gift from Spain. It wasn't until 1917 that Naval History and Heritage Command began issuing individualized Navy gift items to members of the military and government officials. Gifts continued to be given throughout World War II, but they were mostly ceremonial in nature. In 1945, President Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 12474 which created the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM). The medal was meant to recognize service member heroic efforts during wartime. As time passed, more military members received NDSM's for their contributions outside of actual combat operations; this included civilians who had rendered aid or support to troops while living off-base or working inside enemy lines. Since 1995, NHHC has released an annual "Navy Gift Guide." This guide features information on what types of gifts are appropriate for different occasions, along with suggested recipients and why they might find them valuable. The guide also provides suggestions on how individuals can best present a gift to their favorite naval officer or group member.

Huntington was founded in 1779 by George Washington and his brothers. The town was named after General James Wilkinson who fought in the French and Indian War. In 1837, Huntington became a village when it amalgamated with two other towns, Goshen and Northville. In 1907, the Township of Huntington was created from parts of Goshen and Northville. At that time, the population was only 2,000 people. On December 12th of that year, the first school opened in Huntington. The town had to wait until 1921 before it could build its first hospital. The current hospital is built on land donated by Mrs. Fenton Healey in 1977. When Huntington entered into Union County in 1821, it lost much of its territory including most of its population which moved to nearby South Bend or Elkhart County. The discovery of oil at nearby Harper’s Ferry led to an increase in business for Huntington businessmen such as John Witherspoon who started a hotel and grocery store there in 1865. Witherspoon also developed the new city limits south of present-day downtown which would include much of what is now north central Indiana University campus today (although some areas were annexed by neighboring communities). By 1940, steel production had become significant with companies like Alcoa starting plants there (the site currently occupied by IHOP). During World War II, many local businesses produced materials for military use such as rifles and tanks; however, whenProduction stopped due to economic conditions post-war many jobs went away including those at US Steel plant where workers took home just $1 per week during wartime while their counterparts at Alcoa were making upwards of $30 per week working on advanced products requiring high skill levels! It wasn’t until 1959 that a new paper mill building replaced an earlier wood pulp factory destroyed during a fire years earlier (in 1906) – this mill continued to produce paper until 1991 when it closed down due to low demand from consumers/the company itself! In recent years there have been efforts made by residents & city officials alike to make some kindof impact on downtown which has seen increased foot traffic & development near Third Streetgate but without any real success so far! Downtown boosters maintain that if done correctly DOWNTOWN WILL be one big vibrant shopping district complete with restaurants & nightlife !!
Huntington was founded in 1814 by Isaac Huntington and his family. The town was named after Isaac's older brother, John Huntington. The first post office in the town opened in 1827. In 1851, a sawmill and grist mill were built in the town. The first store was built in 1870. In 1890, a railroad station was built in the town. In 1924, a movie theater was built in the town.
