The National Guard of Indiana is one of the oldest national guard units in the United States. Established on November 3, 1795 as a cavalry unit, it was elevated to a standing army on February 14, 1802. The National Guard played an important role in American history and has been an essential part of the state's militia since its inception. The first National Guard unit in Huntington was organized on October 25, 1814 as a regiment of infantry under the command of Colonel Isaac Crayford. In 1815, the regiment became Company A 2nd Infantry Regiment and served with distinction during the War of 1812. During this time, Company A was present at Battle Creek and Battle Ground where they were awarded their first battle flag. After the war ended, Captain John Stephenson organized Company B 1st Infantry Regiment which served with distinction during Mexican-American War (1846-1848). In 1850, Company B was redesignated as Company A 4th Infantry Regiment and again distinguished itself during engagements such as San Jacinto and Texarkana. After World War I (1914-1918), Unit D 9th Infantry Battalion was reorganized into Company A 5th Infantry Regiment which served consecutively until it disbanded in 1920 after only three months service due to financial problems. In 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson issued Executive Order 6102 authorizing military service by civilians through volunteer organizations called State Defense Committees or “National Defense Associations” under certain circumstances*, Huntington’s 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry entered into membership with other local battalions from other states* for what would become known as The Great War years*. Over time there were many changes to The National Guard but its basic mission remained unchanged; however some members did become dedicated to combat duty when called upon while others were placed on callout rolls for various reasons such as family emergencies or illness*. On July 1st 1923 all National Guardsmen serving without pay were mustered out effective immediately *. Throughout these years there have been several large events that have influenced how The National Guard functions today including: The New Deal (1932-1939), World War II (1939-1945), Korean Conflict (1950-1953), Vietnam Conflict (1975-1979), Operation Desert Storm* (*1991) continuously deploying Ready Reserve Men across Indiana each weekday morning since 1898!

The Indiana National Guard was organized on July 15, 1863. The organization was made up of companies from the counties of Huntington and Posey. The first company to be mobilized was Company C which arrived in Indianapolis on October 18, 1863. On December 3, 1863, General David D. Porter called for all units of the Indiana National Guard to mobilize for service in the Union army under the command of Major General John J. Pershing. On January 1, 1864, Company E from Huntington mobilized and Companies K and L from Posey did too. The first battle fought by the Indiana National Guard were two skirmishes at Campsville on March 14th and 17th where five soldiers were killed- one soldier was taken prisoner- and nine wounded. The next battle fought by the regiment was at Perrysburg on April 9 where three men were killed- one soldier taken prisoner- and six wounded. Later that year Company F (Huntington) moved to Fort Wayne under Colonel Edward Prentice while Companies G (Posey), H (Harrison) and I (Ankleton) went to Danville under Colonel George Wickersham until November 1870 when they all returned home due to lack of troops in India as well as a special order from President Abraham Lincoln ordering all men subject to military duty in any state or territory must report there within seventy days or be discharged without pay or benefits!. After being home for a few months General Prentice relieved Colonel Wickersham with command of unit at Danville until February 1871 when he took command of I Regiment which had been stationed at Vincennes since November 1870 before moving back home!
Huntington is a city in Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 21,854 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Huntington County. The city was founded in 1824 by John Covington and named for General George Washington. It was incorporated as a town in 1868. In 1907, it became a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous cities in central Indiana.

The National Guard is the military reserve of the United States. The National Guard was first organized on July 1, 1795, as a militia battalion of men from Rhode Island and New York. It was redesignated as a regiment on February 14, 1800. On November 15, 1861, President Abraham Lincoln called for all male citizens over 18 years old to become members of the National Guard if they were unable to serve in the regular army or navy due to illness or enlistment in another service. This event is known as "the call to arms." The first national guard units were raised in Massachusetts and Connecticut; these units served until 1862 when they were re-raised in Kentucky and West Virginia. The states that raised national guard units first are unknown but it is thought that Mississippi did so first before Kentucky did. By 1863 most of the states had raised their own unit but some remained under federal command including those in Louisiana which became the 9th Infantry Regiment on October 12th, 1863 and Arkansas which became the 7th Infantry Regiment on December 16th 1865. In 1868, congress passed an act allowing state militias to be turned into regiments or brigades if certain conditions were met such as being mustered into service for three years with at least 100 men per company and having no active duty during any year other than caring for one's family member who was either a soldier or Confederate sympathizer. On March 15th 1869 South Carolina became the 41st state to join then 10th Infantry Brigade (National Guards) commanded by General James Buell which was based out of Charleston Harbor area
Huntington is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, seat of Huntington County. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census and 50,715 as of 2016. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Huntington was founded by Nicholas Warrington in 1814 on land granted to him by the Shawnee people. He named his new settlement after his patron saint, James I of England, who had died in 1702. Warrington's main business was agriculture; he also built a gristmill and two churches in town. In 1841, he sold his holdings to General David Hunter for $10 million dollars. After becoming governor of Indiana in 1850 and later president of New York (1858–62), Hunter increased agricultural support in IU with money from this sale and through other investments. In 1860, he incorporated Huntington as a city under the name "Newburgh". The first mayor was John Hynes (1861-1865). The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its location at the intersection of several major transportation routes: Railroad Line #1 connected Indianapolis with Chicago &cincinnati via Cincinnati Depot #2; Railroad Line #3 connected Indianapolis with Detroit &citérus via Detroit Depot #4; and Highway 36 led from Indianapolis to Chicago via Bloomington &crainesville Junction.# In 1886, Indianola Bridge was built over White River between Huntington and Noblesville to provide an easier way for travelers between those cities
