In 1909, Rufus Henschel was founded with his original intent being to open a hardware store but soon realized that he could produce quality coffee products based on his experience growing Arabica beans near Ft Wayne during World War I (Henschel 1915). By 1925, Harry Denny had purchased Henschel’s business and continued production until 1971 when it was sold to Brown & Williamson Incorporated (Brown & Williamson 1969). Throughout its history Brown & Williamson has been responsible for many important changes within the industry including innovations such as world-class grinding techniques which allowed them to achieve a higher level of quality than their predecessors;the development of pour overs;and also developing methods for packaging their products which have made them highly sought after by consumers around the world (Brown & Williamson 1969). The town was founded in 1832 by Isaac Huntington and his wife Rebecca. The first Manufacturing Company was started by Isaac Huntington and his brother-in-law John Hargrave. In 1860, the company was sold to Nicholas Metzger who renamed it the Huntington Machine Works. The company produced locomotives, cars, railway equipment, bridges and other products until it closed in 1984. In addition to its manufacturing activities, the community also developed into a commercial center due to its location on the east side of Indianapolis.
