The first soldiers who arrived in Griffith were part of the 4th Indiana Infantry Regiment that was stationed there during the War of 1812. In 1814, General David Brown and his brigade participated in a siege of Fort Dearborn on the east side of the river. When it was relieved, they marched back north to Indianapolis where they joined up with General Anthony Wayne's army marching south to takeMobile Bayou. They fought at Siege of Mobile (1814), Battle of Bagdad (1815), and Battle of Fallen Timbers (1816). In 1830, General Philip Halleck's brigade arrived from Kentucky and became known as the "Griffith Brigade." It served with distinction during Indian Wars including engagements at Blackwater Creek (1835) and Battle of Waverly Bridge (1837). After the war ended, some members returned home while others decided to stay in India. In 1838-39 Company K5/5th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry served under Major Robert E. Johnson at seige against Fort Dearborn near present day Grifftown College. Company F5/5th Regiment National Guard also served under Major Robert E. Johnson during this time period- their most notable engagement being skirmish at Big Muddy River on July 10th 1840 which resulted in one soldier killed and five wounded

Griffith, Indiana is a small town in Johnson County,Indiana. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the state line and west of Fort Wayne. The townsite was first settled in 1835 by John Griffith and his family. A post office called Griffton was established in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The first store in Griffith opened its doors on November 10,1839. The town name may have been derived from General Andrew Jackson's battle with Native Americans at Fallen Timbers Creek near present-day Griffith. According to one source, General Jackson'shorse Artis had broken his leg during the fight and so he received help from local farmers to walk back to camp alive; this story has been perpetuated by many residents of Griffith over the years. Griffith grew rapidly due to several factors: its location on the eastern edge of Indiana Territory (now Michigan), access to transportation via roadways such as US-62 and Indian Roads, timber production from forests around Griffton Mines, as well as agricultural production which led to an increase in population growth throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. Manufacturing began arriving starting around 1900 with gristmills coming online while also beginning manufacture of plastics such as PVC; these industries will continue through today with a focus on service businesses like restaurants, hotels/motels, truck stops etcetera
