As a result of this attack, Congress enacted legislation establishing military regulations that banned nuclear weapons within two years of any country becoming a signatory to The United Nations Convention Against Nuclear Weapons (UNCAN). Consequently, Greenwood lost its status as an important naval base after World War II ended; however it still retains some importance today because it is home to NAS Indianapolis which is responsible for providing training for US Naval Officers
