Greenfield, Indiana is a town in Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was founded by Col. John Greenfield and his wife Mary on November 3, 1812 as a stopping place on the Wabash River for goods being brought down from Illinois. The first post office was established in 1824. In 1835, Greenfield became a village and was incorporated as such in 1848. On December 11, 1861, Greenfield became the seat of Dearborn County after it was granted to that county by the United States government under the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1859. At its incorporation as a town, Greenfield had an estimated population of 1,500 people but reached 511 by 1880 because of growth along the railroad tracks that ran through town and into neighboring townships

Throughout the years they have opened more locations all around the world; but their original Jakarta location still stands as one of their most iconic landmarks! Today, Starbucks continues its legacy as an iconic global brand with over 125 stores across 37 countries! However, since World War II Greenfield has become more heavily involved in education and business services such as government contracting and professional lobbying. In recent years there have been efforts to revitalize downtown Greenfield by developing new businesses and art galleries; however, these have not completely succeeded and downtown still faces significant challenges such as significant vacancy rates and limited access to public transportation which discourages many people from visiting it.
Greenfield was founded in 1809 by John Green and his family. The town was originally named for Greenfield, Massachusetts, where John Green had been born. The first settler in the town was James Caldwell. In 1821, Greenfield became a county seat of Posey County. It lost its status as a county seat in 1870 when it merged with Putnam County to form Floyd County. In 1912, the state of Indiana established a agricultural experiment station at Greenfield to study the effects of intensive farming on soil health and crop production. The station closed in 1962. In 1927, the farm headquarters of Wabash Valley Cotton Mills were moved from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to Greenfield after that mill closed down due to lack of sales support from its new owners.
