The history of coffee within the Franklin area goes back to 1847 when a group of Dutchmen traveling through the area discovered coffee beans growing wild. They started a small business, The Dutchman Coffee House, in order to sell their product. The first shipment of beans arrived in November of that year and was so popular that they continued to bring them over until 1851. In that year, they opened up another shop called The Roasterie and began selling whole bean coffee as well. By 1862, they had two shops totaling six locations. In 1867, their fourth store opened up and became the first grocery store in the town. From there on out, it was only natural for them to open more stores and continue bringing in new customers!

Franklin, Indiana is a small town in central Michigan that has been named after Franklin D. Roosevelt. The community was founded by a group of Dutch farmers in 1836 and was originally called Nieuw Amsterdam (New Amsterdam). The name was changed to Franklin in honor of the first U.S. president, James K. Polk. The community became a census-designated place (CDP) in 1984 and its population was 7,859 at the 2000 census. The history of Franklin begins with the arrival of European settlers in what is now Franklin County, Michigan Territory on July 4, 1836. These pioneers were led by Johannes Heemstra and Isaac Van Camp who came from the village of Hoegaarden on the left bank of the Amontillado River in present-day Netherlands America (now Texas). They organized into villages which they called "Nieuw Amsterdam." On October 15, 1837, underwrote an agreement with Governor Cassandri as part of a larger effort to open up Michigan Territory to settlement by Europeans. This marked the beginning of one of America's most dramatic frontier eras: rapid exploration and settlement brought about by new technology and economic opportunities during what is known as "the Great Migration." In 1850, when Illinois became a state and Franklin became part of that state's boundaries, it reverted back to its Dutch name once again- this time called "Nieuw Amsterdam." In 1857–1858 two more villages were established here: Vijverbergen (present day Holland Park) on the east side of town near Lansing Municipal Airport and Prinsenhof on or around present day DeKalb Avenue between Lansing Avenue and State Road 910 east thereof.] An additional village would be established only six years later when Oostende Township was added to Franklin County; however no record exists for this village either within or outside Franklin County itself! This Frontier Period Village Era continued until 1784 when an Act creating Wayne County was passed Congress without any public hearings or debate! One possible reason why this occurred may have been because wealthy Americans felt their interests would be better served within Wayne rather thanFranklinCounty due to its strategic location midway between Detroit and Chicago along I-80 corridor! In 1800 alone over 225 miles had been traveled thru Ohio & Indiana w/out stopping & 2 yrs before that w/o any diffrence Ohio Agr’t Comm’t had sent 1 Britisher thro’ same period
