With these changes came increased responsibilities for both agencies as they transitioned from wartime auxiliaries into full-fledged branches of government. The Franklin County Air Force Base Museum is home to the largest collection of military memorabilia in the Indianapolis area. The museum has an air force gift history that dates back to World War II. In 1945, the United States Air Force donated a large plane hangar and its surrounding lot to the Franklin County Air Force Base Museum. This donation was used as part of the foundation for the current museum. The first gift from the United States Air Force came in 1948 when a C-54 Skymaster airplane was donated by Colonel Harry Ziegler, III, commander of then-Air University Squadron at Maxwell Field, Alabama. That same year, another C-54 airplane was donated by Lieutenant Colonel James Kappenberger, Jr., commanding officer of Tactical Aircraft Division 2 at Hickam Field Hawaii. In 1952, a Boeing 707 aircraft was gifted by Lieutenant General Hoyt S. Vandenberg Jr., Commander First Allied Tactical Air Forces during his visit to Franklin County AFB. In 1974, Major General Bob Hoeft gave a Boeing 737 aircraft to the museum as part of his donation for American International Airport in Greater Cincinnati project which would be used as an training airport for fighter pilots from around America and Europe. In 1978, another Boeing 737 aircraft was given to the museum when it received a donation from Major General Carl Spaatz (Ulysses S. Grant Wood USAF). That same year also saw the donation of two P-51D Mustang airplanes fromLockheed Martin Corporation which were used as models for air combat training maneuvers at nearby Goodyear Lakeland Aerodrome east of Indianapolis on what is now known as "Grumman" Hill near Southport Road and I-465 north of Frankfort Township limits in Hendricks County In 1984 another LockheedMartin Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol plane donation followed when Majestic Airlines donated six Lufthansa 747SPs - four McDonnell Douglas MD-11s and two Lufthansa 747NLs - each built with two decks above ground level carrying up to 86 passengers each - all destined for Frankfurt Airport Germany where they would serve as passenger planes providing security cover over Europe's airports during this time period known as "the dark age". These donations marked one such occasion where contributions were made directly to support local nonprofit organizations rather than going through commercial airlines or government agencies
Franklin, Indiana is a small town in LaPorte County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–Elkhart–Evanston, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Franklin/Terre Haute community began as a Methodist Episcopal village on the east side of the Kankakee River. A post office was established in 1833 and continued to be open until it closed in 1899. In 1871, James White donated 8 acres (3 ha) of land to the community for use as a school ground. The first Franklin School opened in 1870 and served grades one through twelve. In 1915, an addition was built to housegrade thirteen and fourteen students. In 1925, when LaPorte County became a “semi-judicial” county with its own court system, Franklin became part of that system and continues to serve as a civil government center for LaPorte County residents who live within its boundaries but do not have local representation on the judicial bench or jury box

Additionally, retired Colonel Johnnie Ray donated a 2-acre plot of land near El Paso Army National Guard Headquarters for use as an installation housing RAF hangars and other associated equipment used by the RAF during World War II. This donation helped provide facilities for Aeronautical Research Laboratory (AeRL) at El Paso Army National Guard Headquarters which is now home to engineering research teams from across the globe working on advanced aerospace technologies
