Frankfort is located in the Southern Indiana province of Indiana. On November 2, 1814, during the War of 1812, General Harrison was besieging Fort Dearborn on the west side of the Hoosier River. The fort had been built by British Colonel John C. Fremont and his militia in order to control trade with Canada. The garrison consisted of about sixty men under Captain David Allen and Lieutenants James Pemberton and Isaac Hull. On October 30, 1814, Major General Harrison sent a detachment of nine hundred men under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong to relieve Fort Dearborn. At daybreak on November 1st, Armstrong's brigade arrived at Fort Dearborn and found that it was abandoned. He immediately ordered his brigade back to the fort where they began building a new fortifications around it. By evening he had completed two redoubts along both banks of the river which formed an exterior wall around theFortDearborn Garrison House (now known as Old State Capitol). Harrison's army remained at Fort Dearborn for three days while he reinforced and restored artillery pieces available there from Canada. He then marched eastward through central Indiana towards Philadelphia via Danville on November 5th and reached that city late on Sunday night 11/6th after a march of over eighty miles over difficult ground covered by severe weather conditions including snow drifts up to six feet high and blizzards lasting many hours each day. The following morning Tuesday 11/7th saw much activity as General Harrison made ready for battle against American forces under Commodore Andrew Hearn at Monmouth Junction on Long Island Sound between New York City and Boston Harbor which would be one of several decisive engagements in this war fought largely without cavalry or artillery support which would eventually lead to defeats for both sides

Frankfort is a city in central Indiana, United States. The population was 11,533 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kosciusko County. The name "Frankfort" honors General Frankfort, who fought in the American Revolution and became a hero to many Hoosiers. The city was founded by colonists from Pennsylvania in 1785 as a trading post on the east side of the Great Lakes. A year later, it was renamed for General James Wilkinson, commander of British forces during the Northwest Indian War. In 1814, after the siege of Fort Dearborn by US Indians and their allies led by Tecumseh and Hernando de Soto, Franksfort became an important stop on the road between Chicago and Indianapolis. In 1861, when Kentucky seceded from US Union and lost its right to vote in national elections, Franksfort became part of Kosciusko County; since then it has been its constituting city center. Today's Frankfort is built on land that once formed part of two large villages: North Frankfort Township (now North Kosciusko Township) and South Frankfort Township (now South Kosciusko Township). These two townships were together named after Colonel Johnstown Turney Sr., one of America's most eminent frontier soldiers during both World Wars I and II who served with distinction in both wars as a colonel or brigadier general in Company K-2/24th Infantry Regiment (lateractivated as 1st Battalion/1st Infantry Regiment Indiana National Guard), Regimental Combat Team 3rd Infantry Division (Iverian Guards), 3rd Cavalry Brigade Combat Team Indiana National Guard) helping lead American troops into battle against numerically superior enemy forces across Europe during those conflicts. Area now occupied by North Kosciusko Township was first settled by Europeans about 1695-1697 when French traders came down Michigan River from Canada via Illinois Territory; they called this area "New France." Colonel Turney bought 640 acres (240 hectares) near present day town square for $5 per acre ($40 per hectare today). He donated this land to local Indians for religious purposes because he saw great potential for farming here due to rich soil and good water availability; according to legend, his advice helped plant more than 12 million trees in north central Indiana alone! In 1785 three colonists from Pennsylvania arrived at what is now known as North Frankfort Township carrying with them seeds sown with unwashed hands – no machines were yet available – that would result in what we know today as agriculture. On July 30th that year they erected a small log cabin just south of where current day First Street meets Ohio Street which served as their Trading Post until 1800 when they moved upriver to what is now known as South Frankfort Township where they established a permanent settlement under the name "Frankford". Under Colonel Turney’s guidance this new town started growing rapidly becoming one of America’s largest inland communities before finally joining rest of country through statehood in 1821 following war with England over boundary changes At That time “North Franklin & South Franklin” had 8 miles long streets each side w/4 blocks long limits only 2 feet wide w/no shoulders & Lots widthwise 60 feet @ 6 feet high What we have today are simply remnants & variations off original plan developed under auspices Of Superintendent William Greenfield Sr.. Today FRANKFORT still boasts some impressive architecture including Town Hall Annexe building located northeast corner First St&Ohio St originally designed By George Stephenson Architectural Record vol XIV pg 710 As early settlers approached Independence Creek running through present day Frankfort they noted an easy crossing but not very deep Creek so builders did not build much above ground until 1815 when natural resources improved making crossings even easier Nowadays you can see all sortsof shops along creek bank Just upstream from creek mouth public boat ramp opens daily 9am–3pm admission free

Frankfort, a small town in central Indiana, is the seat of James K. Polk County. The community was founded in 1819 by businessman and political figure, David Wilkinson. In 1851, Frankfort became the county seat of Polk County after that county was created from parts of Hendricks and Vincennes counties. The population of Frankfort peaked at 9,898 in 1920 but has since decreased to 3,767 as of 2010. Frankfort is home to the headquarters for the American Legion National Military District #10 and also features one of three monuments commemorating General George Custer with his statue located east side of courthouse square. The first permanent settler in what is now Polk County was David Wilkinson who arrived in 1819. He built a cabin on a small stream near present-day Frankfort and named it Wilkinson Station. In 1830, Wilkinson sold his holdings to John Witherspoon who established Witherspoonville. By 1834, Witherspoon had moved his operations to what is now called Franklin Township which he named after his friend and mentor, Benjamin Franklin. In 1840, two years after Witherspoon's death, government land was donated by Amos Kendall to establish a new township under the name "Frankfort". On January 1st 1850, the temporary governmental organization known as the Township Commission met at Franks Station and organized into a permanent municipality under the name "Albany". In 1870 Taxes were levied against residents of Frankfort for $1 per head assessed against residential property valued at $50 or more apportioned among all townships within Polk County (this information comes from an article published in "Polkiana" magazine dated October 1890). At this time there were 2 school districts operating within Albinia: Hamilton School District No 1 on Main Street west of Market Street and Albany School District No 2 on State Road 8 southwest of Market Street (the current location for those schools today). From this date forward until 1917 when they merged into one district - Consolidated Lansingburgh Schools - both Townships operated their own schools with either one or two directors assigned each school board meeting during term times; however effective teaching staffs were shared between both systems starting in 1917 due to financial concerns related to enrollments within village boundaries (see photo below) . Also during this time period there was significant growth at nearby Poseyville resulting from increased demand for farmers market produce brought about by railroad construction through that area; however most activities conducted out of town took place around Exchange Alley where post office services continued until 1954 when mail service transitioned over permanently to Indianapolis (see photo below right) . Notwithstanding some growth issues associated with increasing population density within Village boundaries such as housing values pipeline parking lot sizes becoming too large – majority efforts have been made towards preserving Village character including recent work undertaken on expanding Perkins Avenue which runs through Village center while still allowing access via alleyways leading upTo/from homes
