The United States Air Force gift history begins in Frankfort, Indiana on December 1, 1944 with the donation of an airplane to the service. The gift was made by Lt. Col. Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Lt. James A. Lovell during the Battle of Okinawa and was named after both men as a symbol of support for American forces fighting in World War II. On December 20, 1948, another airplane was donated to the air force by Mrs. Carl J. Hargrave and her husband, Colonel John Wirtz Sr.. This aircraft was christened "Eagle" after World War II veterans General Curtis LeMay and Admiral Chester Nimitz who had been mentioned in connection with its donation prior to its being given to the military services. In 1961, another plane was donated by Mrs. Hargrave which became known as "Golden Eagle". On July 17th, 1968, yet another plane was gifted to the USAF by Mrs. Alice Sills Kappler when she donated an Army C-46 Commando at her home field near Indianapolis while it served as a hangar for the newly-formed Tactical Air Command (TAC). The name of this airplane is still unknown today but it is commonly assumed that it became known as "Panther". Since then numerous planes have been gifted to various branches of the USAF through various donation ceremonies or auction presentations including: Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter jets; Boeing 707 passenger jets; McDonnell Douglas MD-8C/D Multirole Airliners; Northrop Grumman F-5E Tiger jets; Republic Aviation RA-4M Skyhawk jet fighters; Hughes Aircraft Company MDH-1 Jetliners; Bell Helicopter Textron IH-6J Islanders; LearJet LHs/LHAs/Airlines etc., etc., all Of Which Have Ended Up With The Military Services They Were Gifted To! It is also interesting to note that many countries have contributed aircraft or other types of equipment to be used within their own militaries such as Egypt which received a Mirage III Fighter jet from France in 1967 and Chile which received two Hawker Siddeley HS748 helicopters from Britain in 1976 respectively! It truly is an incredible gift history that goes back over 60 years!

Frankfort, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state ofIndiana. The population was 2,753 at the 2010 census. Frankfort is located in Kosciusko County and is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settlers of this area were from Germany and arrived in 1814. The name "Frankfort" originated from a place called Francfort on the Rhine River, about northwest of today's Frankfort. In 1827, Doctor David Harlan erected a log cabin near where he now lives and named it Harlan House after himself and his father-in-law, Dr Samuel Hallett. In 1840, Father John Beattie established Saint Joseph's Catholic Church which still resides in Frankfort today as one of the leading churches in Kosciusko County In 1847 Nathaniel Peebles purchased 640 acres (250 ha) east of present day Frankfort on what would become known as Peebles land grant dating back to 1787 when James Kapp purchased 567 acres (247 ha) adjacent to French Creek for $5 per acre ($/ha). When Indian removal began in 1830 by order of General Andrew Jackson, Peebles' land was confiscated by military forces under General Eli Whitney et al., who then offered it to farmers for sale at reduced prices due to its poor quality soil; however most buyers refused because they could not afford payment without loss of their homes or animals. By 1835, only 10 families remained on Peebles land grant including Peeble himself and his son George Washington Peebles who operated an agricultural Implement factory in Warsaw Junction until his death there on March 12th 1865 aged 79 years old – making him one of Indiana's longest living citizens ever! In 1850 McClure built Ziegler & McClure store across from present day Slaughter Cemetery west side street just north of Main Street with 3 stories measuring 123 feet (37 m) wide x 80 feet (28 m) high counting doorways with original glass panes......................................................................... One building still stands....................................................................... The business continued into the 1800s as Grote & Company Merchants Warehouse before becoming First National Bank which closed its doors for good on May 15th 1907......................................... From November 1st 1907 until May 15th 1908 First National Bank closed its doors for good.......................... On October 25 th 1902 local resident AMrs Catherine Zimmermann donated furniture from her home at 4405 Wabash Avenue to be used as storage by newly formed Crystal City Mental Health Facility............. Mrs Zimmermann also gave money towards new hospital building fund .............................. This facility became known as Maple Leaf Hospital ............... After Maple Leaf Hospital closed numerous donations were made such as cedar chests donated by Mrs Zimmermann which served as wards during World War II ............. Many items such as bedsrests and laundry machines were gifted during that time period................... Frankford High School also contributed many pieces such as desks and chairs .......... After World War II many people moved away but some remain including Mr & Mrs Jens Petersen who live next door to us since 1978 ............................ We are blessed every day with wonderful memories shared with friends
