The United States Air Force deployed a gift to Fishers, Indiana in 1947. This gift was the F-86 Sabre jet fighter aircraft. The air force's first jet fighter aircraft, this plane was donated by General Curtis LeMay and flew for the USAAF in Europe during World War II. The planes were used as training and bombing planes until they were retired in the early 1960s. Now stored at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, these planes are once again being flown by American pilots as part of aerial demonstrations and training exercises worldwide.

The history of the Fishers Air Force Band began in 1941 when the Indiana National Guard band was activated to play patriotic songs during World War II. The band played for Military units and local communities untilactivated in 1973. In 1978, the Indiana State Legislature passed a bill authorizing the purchase of an air force gift shop and eventually the formation of the Fishers Air Force Band as a performing unit within the Indiana National Guard. In 1984, Lt. Col. Donnie Prentice assumed command of the Fishers Air Force Band and has led it ever since as its Commander-in-Chief. As one of only two military bands in America that performs at both state capitols (the other is Ft. Worth’s Texas Army National Guard), and one of only two bands in America with a permanent home within an Indiana National Guard unit, The Fishers Air ForceBand enjoys a long history rich with community involvement and success through music education and performance opportunities for students from all over central Indiana!

The United States Air Force deployed a gift history in support of the Christmas season. Gifts given to service members during the holiday season are honored with an air force deployment gift history. In 1946, the USAAF donated a pair of Spitfires as part of an air force gift history campaign. The planes were used for training and flewover military ceremonies throughout the year. In 1992, USAF squadron number 666 presented two C-130 Hercules aircraft as gifts to members of the Florida Air National Guard in celebration of their 200th anniversary. In 1994, USAF 2d Bomb Squadron presented two F-16 Fighting Falcons as gifts to members of the Delaware Air National Guard in celebration of their 100th birthday. In 1996, USAF 1st Bomb Wing presented four KC-135 Stratotankers as gifts to service members from Ohio and Kentucky in commemoration of their 175th birthday. 2D Bomb Squadron also gifted three YF-12B Starfighters to California ANGmembers in honor of their 50th anniversary! And last but not least, 1st Bomb Wing hosted its own unique Gift History event on Dec 9,2013 when they bestowed two Kiowa Warrior helicopters on unit personnel from Oregon ANGmembers!
Fishers is a city in and the county seat of Fisher County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Fishers" comes from Miamis Indians who lived around the river there before settlers arrived in 1814. The first European to arrive in what is now Fisher County was James Wacker, a surveyor for one of the Harrison Land Company's surveys in 1814. Wacker named his new land "Fisher", after Miamis Indians he had met on his travels through that region some time earlier. In 1816, Wacker and others organized a militia company to help defend against Indian attacks near present-day Indianapolis. In 1819, when Jones became governor of Indiana, he requested money from Congress to build a road from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania across southern Indiana to theoretical settlement by whites at Fayetteville (then known as West Point). The request went unheeded because no suitable location had been found for the road within Indiana's then proposed borders. However, Jones did approve appropriations for construction of a road through centralIndiana starting at Fort Wayne and going east to Terre Haute before turning south along the same course as today's I-69 corridor into central Illinois where it would meet up with Native American trails leading north towards Chicago. This route was eventually built by President Ulysses S Grant as part of his famous Overland Route system during the Civil War era. In 1830–32 Daniel Drake founded what is now Drake University in downtown Fishers; this institution retains its original name today (Daniel Drake University). In 1830–32 also George Meeker established Meeker & Co., grocery stores that still operate in Fishers today. George Meeker married Anna Boltenbach (1801 – 1865), daughter of Abraham Boltenbach (1768 – 1840) an early settler in what is now Mishawaka County and they resided together until her death; she later moved westward to Pueblo City and died There on October 16th 1865 aged 82 years old./ A few weeks after her death her husband purchased property locatedeastwestof downtownPhelpsburgon November 17th 1865from John Jelinekfor $440/ acres which included present day downtownFishers.. He named itMeeker Plaza after himself and began building house #4 onthe plat upon which he erected house #1now known as Meeker House.#He continuedtolivethereuntilhisdeath.)
