In 1850, John Prentice founded a grist mill here that became one of America's largest flour mills during Queen Victoria's reign because he could get quality flour at low prices from local farmers while still shipping grain elsewhere. By 1865, Grange Mill had become one of America’s leading flour producers with its three flooring mill building and six kiln buildings producing over 1 million pounds sterling per day (about US$38 million) worth of flour products including breads and pastry doughs; cake mix; cookies; icing; canned goods; beverage cans and jars; hats and caps; insulation material for homes & factories etc., making it one of America’s largest manufacturers by 1880. During World War I, when neighboring Moline was bombed by Germany souch as entire neighborhoods went up in flames American forces burned down Grange Mill which destroyed over 150 acres (6 ha) within minutes with no loss inflicted upon any civilians or property damage done other than some minor fire damage to machinery within the mill buildings themselves . Although this example shows just how devastating bombing can be even though there are no casualties many businesses are closed down permanently due to such DAMAGE! In 1949, a gift from Boeing Corporation included twelve Lifejackets and six lifeboats for use on patrol waters. In 2001, a set of service dogs were donated by pet retailer PETCO to provide assistance to search and rescue missions along America's coasts. That year also saw the donation of an ice cream truck by California farmers group CropLife USA to support the Coast Guard's effort during wintertime weather conditions. A new gift from Coca-Cola Incorporated arrived in 2003 when they donated two 20-foot long fishing boats (the largest ever given to the Coast Guard) as well as three boating trailers and four launch ramps used for landing large ships at ports around America.
