The first Coast Guard gift from Crown Point was a bell and chain. The Chain of the United States Coast Guard was given to the town in 1922 by President Warren G. Harding as a gesture of friendship. The bell was delivered in 1928. In 1951, a plaque dedicated to the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard was placed at the old Crown Point Depot on State Street. In 1984, crown point became home to America's only National Museum of Coastal Defense which features artifacts from coast guard history dating back to 1790 when Portsmouth, New Hampshire founded the first American Coastguard Station on Long Island Sound

Crown Point is a town in and the county seat of Posey County, Indiana, United States. The population was 9,512 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is known for its rich history and culture which has been passed down through its residents and businesses. The town was founded in 1812 as a post office called Crown point on the banks of the White River. The name comes from an old Indian word meaning "chiefs' fort." In 1834, Posey County was organized, and Crown Point became its county seat. It remained so until it became part of Evansville in 1976. Crown Point's rich history began with the arrival of Europeans in what is now Posey County in 1812. French traders named many places after their native countries—including Canada for Canadian traders who came toINDIANA during this time period; France for French traders who established posts along the White River; India for English traders who operated out of Fort Dearborn on Lake Michigan; and Spain for American fur trappers seeking new land to explore. When Captain John Potter arrived at Crown point on July 4, 1814, he found that many people had abandoned their homes because of hostility towards Americans by local Native Americans. Potter decided to build a trading post here instead and named it Pottersville after himself and his party's leader Lieutenant Colonel James Potter (1784-1861). The first permanent settler in Crownpoint was Nicholas Longacre (1792-1865), a British Army captain who owned land near present day North Bend on White River Bayou. He married one of Jacob Riis's daughters and moved to Indiana from New York City in 1821 when he saw open land there that might be used for agriculture. In 1830 he built Fort Dearborn upon Licking Creek east of present day North Bend. It served as a military post against Native Americans until 1836 when it was surrendered to local Indians following a peace agreement between US officials and the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy led by General Anthony Wayne (1775-1848). The site now houses modern day North Bend Municipal Airport though most buildings were destroyed by fire in 1896 while being rebuilt following damage done by an accidental spark from an outgoing locomotive stopped short at Fort Dearborn Depot just south of town center! In 1840 Longacre erected another large structure – Ft Dearborn State Park – adjacent to his original fortifications as part of efforts to promote settlement around what is now Evansville area including today's downtown core across White River Bayou from Old Fort Dearborn State Park northward into modern day Posey County swampland where much later Henry Ford set up his automobile plant! For more than two centuries Crownpoint has been home to both small farms along Wabash Road which leads into downtown orchards off Hwy 8 near present day I-465 running parallel with today’s Streetsboro Rd., accessed via several bridges over current days creeks - likely early 1800s farmsteads still extant w/early 20th century infrastructure & features typical pioneer lifestyle - general store/post office(s)@ early 19th century (~1800), blacksmith shop(s), schoolhouse/church complex~? 1830 circa?, home built ∼1850 by wealthy easterner Andrew Bolton (c 1787- 1861?), mail service started here 1865 under directionof Union Civil War veteran Major George Stephenson Sibley (& others) In 1984–85 crownpoint added 2 miles northwest off I-465 onto portions opened up years earlier along Pine Marsh Rd./Natchez Trace Canal National Wildlife Refuge @ 3200 feet elevation atop ponderosa pine forest rising gradually away NW leaving ample turnout areas fringed with tall trees bordering marshlands below providing excellent opportunities fringed views 15 minutes west southeast OF Evansville ON shoulder Of Utica Ridge Wilderness Preserve

Crown Point is a town in and the county seat of Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is home to the nearly 2,000-acre Crown Point National Lakeshore and its many attractions which include three national museums: the American Museum of Natural History, the Indian Museum ofkicketts County and the Indiana State Historical Society. By 1825, crown point had become an important trading post on the Wabash River. In 1828, it became a state capital when Indiana became a United States territory. The following year saw another boom as prospectors discovered coal and oil nearby. The town grew rapidly during this time with new buildings being erected along North Main Street and Erie Avenue. However, by 1830s economic troubles were beginning to show up as prices for goods began to drop and jobs dried up locally. In 1840s, much of what we now call downtown Crown Point was built using federal funds provided through hispanic Reconstruction following America’s civil war efforts (and after Henry Clay vetoed any bill that would have given money directly to Mexico). Many stores closed down during this time as men looked for more profitable opportunities outside of farming or manufacturing (although some prospered). When General Grant came into office in 1846 he decided that Crown Point needed attention – he ordered military forces stationed there until work could be done on improving infrastructure such as bridges over rivers (something which took many years). Once improvements were made it seemed business picked back up again but by 1860 crown point had shrunk from its heyday due largely to immigration from Germany (of whom most residents still speak German today) as well as competition from larger cities like Indianapolis and Chicago which had started developing around that time
