The Indiana Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to 1814. The first units were raised in the town of Crown Point in central Indiana, and the Guard was organized on November 28, 1814. The unit was initially commanded by Captain John C. Frick and later by Colonel James Wilkinson. In 1832, Crown Point became the headquarters for the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team which was stationed at Fort Stotsenburg. In 1865, when Fort Harrison was decommissioned, the regiment moved to New Orleans and then to Cairo, Illinois before being disbanded on December 1st that year. On July 4th, 1897, it re-activated as part of brigade command at Ft Wayne under Brigadier General Edward J. Smith until it was discontinued again in 1899 when it transitioned to brigade command at Indianapolis under Major General Charles Hoey Peake Wilson Jr.. From 1907 until 1912 the unit served as an artillery battalion with battery A1 located at Ft Wayne while battery A2 served at Ft Erie (now Jacksonville). Battery A3 also served during World War I withBattery A4 attached from 1919-1920; however they all ceased operations early due to personnel shortages after World War I ended. During World War II Battery A5Awas activated serving in Europe with Bty H10 detached(1944)and Bty L11 detached(1945)before finally disbanding 1945 On October 15th 1898 two detachments of Battery A7 arrived from Decatur County MI They manned guns aboard USS Monitor while flagship USAT Niagara towed gunboat Michigan around Lake Erie training recruits for Navy During this time there were many battles fought between forces from Great Britain and America including Trafalgar off Cape Cod Bay 05/15/1804! In 1903 an infantry battalion (the 2nd) was raised under Lieutenant Colonel George Denny who had been transferred from Richmond IRVINA militia company In 1906 an artillery battalion (the 3rd) was raised under Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Fenton In 1911 an aviation battalion (the 11th Field Artillery Battalion) was raised under Lieutenant Colonel John Sutherlands In 1916 a signals platoon (the 9th Signal Squadron)was raised under Second Lieutenant Harry W McKinney The 11th Field Artillery Battalion also formed Aviation Squadrons (numbered XIII through XVIII), each attached to one combat wing RAF squadron per theater: England-XVII; France-XVIII; Italy-XXI; Russia-XXII; Poland-XXIII etc.) These squadrons flew bomber aircraft into battle against Axis forces throughout World War II It is interesting to note that all these battalions were eventually disbanded or converted into other military organizations

Crown Point, Indiana is a small town in the northernmost corner of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 3,528 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is part of the Bloomington–Normal metropolitan area and is located about south of Indianapolis on I-65. It lies along the banks of the White River and comprises a rural setting with some high-rise buildings and several shopping malls. The first European settlers in Crown Point were French Jesuits who arrived in 1796. They founded what became known as Sainte Genevieve Parish, which included Crown Point and other nearby towns including Greencastle and Newburgh before becoming part of Butler County in 1814. In 1837, when Butler County was split into three parts, Crown Point went to form part of Clinton Township which also includes today's Dearborn Heights neighborhood north of downtown Indianapolis The town was originally named after Sir Edmund Hillary (1769-1842), an English general who had commanded British forces in India during both World Wars and achieved fame asMount Everest's first mountaineer. After his death, his widow donated land for a public school near her home in Crownpoint where students could practice their Latin language skills without fear of ridicule from their classmates or parents; this early school eventually became known as Mount Holyoke College (now University) after Hillary's wife's Alma Mater. In 1871, when Clinton Township was renamed Delhi Township, crown point annexed what are now portions of North Kipling Park (northwest corner), Dearborn Heights Neighborhood (southwest corner), South Dearborn Heights Neighborhood (southeast corner), East Chicago Heights Neighborhood (east side) and West Chicago Heights Neighborhood (west side). These annexations increased the total number of residents to over 10,000 by 1913 when all but one Annexation had been completed except for Northwest Corner which still remains unincorporated today despite its name change to "Crownpoint". "This growth came about because [the] original proprietors wanted more than just a quiet country village—they desired to become an important metropolis." -Mayor Jim Healy During World War II much development occurred within CrownPoint due to various military installations such as Fort Monmouth primarily responsible for production at Hammond Aircraft Company yards on Monroe Street across from old Fort Knox barracks onto Indian Hill Road dating back to pre-war days when it served as a depot for munitions storage while also hosting officers' quarters until 1946 when they were moved into new facilities adjacent to US Army Medical Center & School complex on Greenwood Avenue between Military Trail Road & I-465 east side while Old Fort Knox Barracks continued serving as garrison untilactivated in 1973 relieved by Indiana National Guard Armory Complex northeast off I-465 next door that opened 1975 heralding end Cold War era associated with large influxes OF Black American soldiers during Vietnam Era years prior although few permanent structures remain now aside from small park located southeast off I-465 opposite property line once used by tiny post office called "Haven" later changed "Crownpoint Park" followingancountersthat resultedinpavementclosuresduring heavy rainsstormsof1992 consequentinincreased numbersof vehicleparkingalongside streetlightsand powerlinesknownasPrairie du Chien Loop

In 1870, the name of Crown Point was changed to Fort Wayne after General Andrew Jackson's victory in the Civil War. From this point on, Crownpoint became a major military base for central Indiana. During World War II, Fort Wayne played a key role in the battles that led to Japan's surrender. Today, Crownpoint is a popular tourist destination with its rich history and beautiful architecture.
