Crawfordsville is a small town in Indiana, located on the banks of the Wabash River. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Crawfordsville were Quakers who arrived in 1788. In 1814, James Hogg was elected as a Justice of the Peace and he built what is now known as Hogg's Grove Cemetery on land donated by his father-in-law, Dr. Samuel Hogg. The first post office in Crawfordsville was established in 1839. In 1867, John A. Crawfords became mayor and served for thirteen years until his death in 1886. He is buried at Hogg's Grove Cemetery with his wife Sarah Jane and three daughters: Alice (1848-1926), Mary (1852-1936) and Emma (1857-1937). During Prohibition period (1920s - 1933), Crawfordsville had several speakeasies where liquors were bought and sold from various businesses such as grocery stores and saloons across town. The speakeasy scene faded after prohibition ended but continued to be popular among friends during other social activities such as dances or picnics. There are also several historical buildings that still remain unchanged from when they were used as residences back then: White Hall which once housed the local school system; Olde Town Hall which has been used for many functions over time including an agricultural fair; Reuben Place which has been home to several churches over the years; and Hilltop Mansion which currently houses the Crawford County Historical Museum

Crawfordsville is a small, rural town in the extreme southeast corner of Indiana. The population was 1,627 at the 2010 census. It is home to Crawfordsville High School and the Crawfordsville-based Crawfordsville Library. The first settlers in what would become Crawfordsville were three men from Pennsylvania who arrived in 1785. They built a log cabin on an old Indian reservation and named their settlement for General John Forbes, who had led British forces into North America during the Seven Years War. General Forbes's widow acquired the land where Crawfordsville now stands and developed it into a small town with farming as its mainstay. In 1847, crawfish became a popular dish in Indiana and Crawford County was started to cultivate them. By 1870, crawfish production had reached such proportions that a new courthouse was needed and local citizens donated $5,000 to build it. The original courthouse remains standing today as part of the downtown core of Crawfordsville. Today, Crawford County remains one of the poorest counties in Indiana because its economy depends largely on agriculture; however, there are plans to revive some farming operations by expanding crop acreage and creating jobs in new technology ventures. Additionally, Crawford County has set up programs which promote responsible drinking practices among youth while also providing opportunities for educational attainment through hunting and fishing programs
Crawfordsville was founded in 1824 by John Crawford and his family. The town developed primarily as a cotton plantation and slave market. In the 1840s, the Crawfordsville community became known for its polished limestone buildings, which are now part of the Indiana University campus.
