The fort served as a location for Augustinian, Franciscan and other Catholic missions until it was destroyed by fire in 1847. In 1854, General David Dixon built Fort Donelson on the west bank of the White River opposite Connersville. The fort served as a base for cavalry operations and also housed artillery batteries and stores for the army during the American Civil War. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant decided to remove all of his military installations across India because of disputes over railroad construction rates. Afterward, only Fort Donelson remained standing in Connersville. In 1899, Admiral Dewey donated land to be used as an Naval Air Station at Mundelein Lake adjacent to Connersville. This allowed for naval aviation communications and air defense within easy reach of any city or town in America’s Great Lakes region. During World War II, Mundelein Lake became home to NAS Pensacola which conducted training flights over Japan and other Pacific Theater countries during 1942-1945; this exercise helped prepare Americans for their war against Japan later that year! Today, NAS Mundelein Lake remains one of America’s most important naval air stations with its ability to provide comprehensive airspace capabilities including anti-submarine warfare; maritime patrol; Provides support services such as weather reconnaissance; research aircraft equipped with advanced sensors;and adversary fighters/jets operations flown around CONNERSVILLE lakes area! The Connersville Admirals were a United States Navy squadron that served in the late 1800s. The squadron was originally formed on 2 October 1892 as part of the Second Fleet and was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. The squadron was redesignated as the Connersville Naval Air Station Squadron on 1 May 1917 and relocated to Connersville, Indiana, on 8 September 1917. On 15 November 1918, the squadron became part of Destroyer Squadron 9 and participated in World War I. After World War I, the squadron returned to Norfolk and disbanded on 3 March 1919.

Connersville is a small town in Clark County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,952 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1814 by Daniel Conners and his brother John Conners. The first settler in Connersville was Nicholas Sayer. In 1835, the post office was moved from Ferris to Connersville and the name changed to its current form. The first store in Connersville was built on Main Street by Elisha Beattie about 1836. In 1865, when Noble Wartime restrictions were placed on Clark County, most of what is now Conner'sville came under military jurisdiction as part of Fort Wayne Township (and later West Lafayette Township). When Clark County reverted back to full government control after the war, all parts of Fort Wayne Township became unincorporated again and remained so until 1990 when they were combined into one municipality called West Lafayette Township. The community has experienced a number of changes over time including annexation by Terre Haute in 1906; a fire that destroyed much of the downtown business district in 1912; prohibition during Prohibition; re-establishment of postal service with ZIP codes 62401-62410 following World War II; increased population growth due to industrialization beginning around 1950 which led to more development adjacent to Interstate 65; and an influx of refugees following World War II who helped spur economic growth throughout central Indiana.
