Connersville is a small town in southern Indiana, located on the left bank of the river Conner. The population was 2,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Decatur, IN Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Connersville was David Conners, who arrived in 1814. By 1830, there were several families living here. The first school in Connersville was built in 1836 by a group ofMethodists from Danville, Illinois. In 1881, Methodism merged with Presbyterianism and the school became known as The Presbyterian School. In 1907, Methodist pastor J.H. McNaught donated land for a church and Congregationalist minister Averill Hardie organized the congregation around that same year. The original building remains to this day and is used as worship space today. In 1916, General Electric erected its factory on the site now occupied by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company headquarters; it remained until 1970 when it was replaced by tire manufacturing operations of Ford Motor Company which moved out after being bought by Chrysler Corporation in 1957.. Connersville’s rapid growth began during World War II with soldiers returning home to find their homes had been bulldozed to make way for new housing developments; many farmers also left to join the military or take displaced workers jobs elsewhere during that time period CONNERSVILLE HERITAGE CEMETERY can be found off US-31 just south of town on an old Indian trail leading eastward from Fort Wayne . This burial ground has been open since 1865 when pioneer James Hoadly died at age 36 while hunting near what is now downtown Connersville . burials are still being done here today including many members of both local and national military services .. most recently Bobby Sands who passed away April 26th 2006 aged 81 years old
