Connersville, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Posey County, Indiana, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis- Kokomo- Muncie metropolitan area. The first European to visit Connersville was French explorer Pierre Chouteau on July 10, 1765. He named it "Village des Connervilliers" after his father, Colonel Nicholas Conner. The first white man to live in what would become Connersville was James Witherspoon who bought land from Nicholas Conner in 1778. In 1814, General David Granger purchased 1,500 acres (0 hectares) of land at what is now downtown Connersville from Nicholas Conner for $1 per acre. A mill race started up near this location and soon became a important factor in early trade and commerce in the community. In 1824, Isaac Noyes donated 640 acres (240 hectares) of land to the town of Connersville as a donation in memory of his wife Marilla Noyes Rivard Blount who died while serving as U.S. Consul at Madras (now Chennai).
