Columbus, Indiana is home to the world’s first gourmet coffee shop, The Gourmand. Opened in 1907 by Italian-American entrepreneur John Ciardi, this small business served high-quality coffee and pastries until it closed its doors in 1978. In the years since, The Gourmand has been reborn as a popular tourist destination for people interested in coffee culture. Today, The Gourmand offers a unique experience that draws on the expertise of experienced roasters from around the world. The history of gourmet coffee begins with Milanese café founders Angelo Petrini and Luigi Bottega. Beginning in 1876, Petrini and Bottega opened two espresso shops in Milan, Italy’s most cosmopolitan city. At their cafes, Petrini and Bottegaserved premium coffees from all over Europe sourced from local growers. From these beginnings, gourmet coffee began to take off throughout Europe. In 1922, Dutch café owner Hendrik Cramer opened his first gourmet Coffee shop in Amsterdamspawning what is now known as “the Dutch Café movement” which encouraged Europeans to enjoy quality international cuisine at cafés outside of traditional urban areas. This trend continued through World War II when war-time rationing led to an increase ininternational trade that resulted in increased demand for premium coffeeshops across Europe. After the war ended, many European countries introduced Regulation T – which established strict limits on how much caffeine could be consumed per person – banning outright the purchase or consumption of gourmet coffee products altogether within their borders (Reinhold Messerschmitt & Carlo Innocenti). It was during this time that Italian American entrepreneur John Ciardi decided to open his own espresso shop called The Gourmand located inside Lima's old city hall building on Broad Street NW corner Third Avenue NW (now part of Ohio State University). John Ciardi quickly became well known for his fine European roast beans and delicious pastries such as croissants and pastries made with fresh fruit preserves or chocolate milk (known today as espresso martinis), which he served alongside imported wines from Italy and Switzerland (the original recipe for those drinks being developed by himself). With The Gourmand open 24/7/365®, Columbus soon had become one of the premier stopovers for tourists visiting Europa Universalis Online (EuOp) - one of the largest online bulletin boards then extant - offering a unique opportunity to sample world class espresso while also observing various cultural scenes going on around town! In 1978 however following Ciardi’s death suddenly after many years running The Gourmand (& several others close by), ownership passed along into new hands with current operator Daniele Zandt taking over operations initially serving pre-packaged espresso blends created by area roasters including Artisan Coffee Works & RoasterWorks out of nearby Fort Wayne (Indiana) before eventually expanding into whole bean production beginning Fall 2010 finally reopening summer 2011 under new name “Daniele ZandtGourmet Coffee Company LLC” bring back some long lost traditions with each cup!

In 1512, Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean with his ships and discovered America. After three years of exploration, he finally landed on the shore of what is now Indiana in March of 1492. From then until 1607, Columbus' expedition led by Menendez de Avila explored and mapped much of the United States. He also founded Santa Maria de la Florida in present-day Pensacola, Florida. On November 12, 1607, English explorer John James Audubon sighted a group of strange looking Indians on Long Island Sound. The next day, he wrote about these "indianas" in his journal. He called them "The Micmac." In 1609, another English explorer named John Smith visited the area and reported that there were people living among the Indians who looked very different from any other human beings he had ever seen. This led to further confusion about who these people were and where they came from. Christopher Columbus never found out about this new land he had discovered because he died before reaching it. However, his successors did find out and map most of what is now America. Some believe that Christopher Columbus would have been amazed at what he saw when he first set foot on this new land; it was so beautiful!

In 1848, John Lewis opened his first London café serving American-made roast coffee beans from his farm near Wapping Ferry. The first Starbucks opened its doors in Seattle in 1976. Coffee has long been an important part of world civilization and has been enjoyed by people throughout history. It is believed that early humans began brewing coffee at least 8 thousand years ago according to archeological evidence discovered during excavations on two sites in Turkey dating back to 7000 BC. These findings indicate that espresso was not only brewed as a beverage but also used as a healing agent before it became popularized as a drink for breakfast by European settlers in the 15th century AD. In 1805 Johann Friedrich Blumenbach published his book Grundzüge der Pharmazeutischen Kupferindustrie (Principles of Pharmaceutical Copper Industry). This book outlined how pharmacies could purchase bulk quantities of copper so they could produce small cups or pots of this metal black powder for use in pharmacy products like teas and coffees. After reading this influential work, Royal Decree No 2 of 1810 ordered all pharmacies across Germany to begin producing coffeepot metal vessels made from cast iron instead of bronze or wood for their retail customers’ convenience and taste preference! Consequently starting on October 1st 1810 all German pharmacies were required to provide their customers with coffeepot metal vessels made from cast iron! This new type of vessel allowed pharmacists more control over the quality and consistency of their product while still providing them with convenient access to store shelves full of various types of tea sets along with ready-to-drink beverages like coffees!

In March 1493, he set sail for America with his crewmates on the Santa Maria de la Virginita. After spending over two years sailing across open ocean, they finally reached land in what is now known as Hispaniola on July 5,1492. The Spanishiceros military expedition had discovered a new route to India and were eager to explore this new land. As part of their exploration efforts they named this area America after their king who had given them permission to do so. Over time, many other Europeans followed Columbus' lead and began traveling to America. By 1521 there were more than 2,500 people living in America - most of whom were indentured servants or slaves. The first Protestant missionaries arrived inAmerica in 1524 and soon started ministering to the Native American population. In 1608 English colonists founded Jamestown on an island near Virginia Beach Maryland which quickly became a key center for English trade with Asia and the Americas. This development led to increased competition between England and Spain for control over North American resources such as foodstuffs, minerals and timber
