The Coast Guard Gift History in Columbus, Indiana began with the establishment of the Coast Guard Station at Huntington in 1873. In response to this attempt at expansionism, Spanish Governor Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered military forces into America under command of Lieutenant Colonel José María Arango to quell any potential revolts or rebellions against Spanish rule that might surface among American settlers living near Mexican borders. More than 1,000 Americans died duringthis failed invasion attempt known commonly as The Great Lakes Campaigns (1796-1800). Following these events，American efforts towards colonization shifted from pursuing empty expanses eastward towards tracts west of Mexico City． By 1821． American Settlers had reached within 100 miles (160 kilometers)of San Francisco’s harbor . However，a series of major earthquakes struck western America in 1819-1820，prompting Congress to pass legislation creating the United Statesopher Land Company . A group led by James Kapp bought approximately two million acres (80 km2) northwest of San Francisco from Bancroft heirs ．This area eventually became downtownSan Francisco! The first section(s) developed into North Beach/Nob Hill while other sections continued development until 1958 when they were combined with Chinatown ()to create one continuous neighborhood calledThe Mission District ().
